While out walking yesterday I suddenly felt giddy, sweaty and dying for something sweet to eat. As soon as I reached home I ate about three Kit Kat bars and soon after felt OK again.
I seem to remember this happening before, about a year ago and I thought nothing of it at the time but, asking around this time people tell me it is called 'hypoglycemia' which I thought only affected diabetics (which I know I'm not), so, could it be hypoglycemia or if not what else could it be. Incidently my normal diet is pretty high in sugar anyway.
Thanks in advance.

You may be a diabetic and not know it, yet. If you felt better after eating something sweet it was most likely a hypoglycemic incident. You should get this checked to find out why your body is producing so much insulin. Also, it could be related to the heat.

Keep glucose tablets on hand that you can take if this happens again. But in the meantime see your doctor about this.

You seem quite certain that you aren't diabetic, so can assume you have had reason to be tested for this recently. I'd imagine that you admitting a high sugar intake to a doctor would be a reason for this testing, but am surprised that it wasn't mentioned that if you continued the high sugar intake that you could develop diabetes.
Hypoglycemia is often a precursor to diabetes and uncontrolled high sugar intakes can make it almost a certainty that you wil develop diabetes. Counteracting blood sugar drops by eating sweet stuff like chocolates will only aggrevate the problem and develop a boom-bust cycle.
Best to snack regularly and healthily to avoid blood sugar dips like this, and if you do experience a drop eat some fruit and stay away from the chocolate.

It's also worthwhile discovering your metabolic type so you can adapt your diet to avoid these dips. A really good resource for this is a book called the metabolic typing diet which will help you work out your type and suggest foods to avoid and which foods will suit your type.

No, hypoglycemia doesn't pass away. i replaced into clinically determined with hypoglycemia as a baby. there isn't any remedy; you may want to eat a adequate quantity of protein and sidestep sophisticated carbs -- flour, sugar, rice -- and extremely sweet fruit.

Everyone has fluctuations in their sugar and doing certain activities increases those swings. Sounds more like you were a bit dehydrated and had the hypoglycemic issue on your mind which conjured up the thought of eating sugar..It could be a touch of both. The key is to drink fluids and to eat moderately and wisely especially when adding exercise. Your doctor can help you make that determination if it is occuring frequently....

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/ZPtKr

A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.

As you had been out walking you must have used up your energy reserves and just needed a topping up to ease your feelings.
At first I did think diabetic but when you are negative it can't be that.
It is caused by low sugar levels which is the body's reserve of energy. Hypo means low and glycemia is sugar.
Have a look at the enclosed link, it does not only happen to diabetics.

That does sound like a hypoglycemic episode. Get to your doctor and get checked out. And it doesn't just affect diabetics. If you've gone for a while without eating, your blood sugar will still drop.

it does kind of sound like hypoglycemia. the only bad thing about fulfilling the crave for sugar is that you will hit a big LOW when that sugar wears off and it can create a cycle. i would consult your doctor about this on your next visit,

Hypoglycemia never makes you 'dying for something sweet to eat'. You probably just had a craving.
