I keep getting private messages from religious people laying into me about me asking questions about Satan and generally being of these scary Agnostic guys.
Can I make a public announcement that to send private mail in abusive manners is jolly nasty, and rather than renouncing the devil, can you renounce the demons of stupidy and realise that I'm inquisitive, not satanic!
So, to make this a question, does god invoke an element of stupidity into a small portion of his followers? Or is the devil just masquerading as a follower to throw me off his trail?

Love the reference. VERY appropriate.
OTOH I just ignore anyone sending abusive/unwanted private e-mails. Blocking them might also help.

I agree and have had the same actually, Sympathies there mate.
I had one guy who I think thought he WAS God, he told me he was the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. Illusions of grandeur don't you think? I thought he was a tosser and made him look a damn fool by arguing rather well that he was not just wrong, but quite stupid. I've yet to receive a response (or a well deserved smiting for questioning god)
But none the less, its a pain isn't it? People are such fruitcakes...
oh, and in answer to your 'question' - yes to both.

People are afraid of what they dont understand. You have the right to ask questions about Satan just like anyone else that asks questions about God.In fact, the Bible says quite a bit about Satan. How can we stand strong against the enemy unless we are familiar with his tactics.

The problem with a worldview that encourages linear, black/white thinking is that it encourages people to categorize very strictly, with no room for any gray. So it's Christian/Satanic, with/against, black/white, this/that, and no thought of an 'other'.
I like being in the 'other' category. I think mostly they just don't see me, like how dogs can't see red....

I have no idea why people feel the need to get holier than thou, especially in a place where Questions are encouraged! I applaud your statement!

So, you are inquisitive about Satan. Are you inquisitive about God?.
Why you want to learn about Satan and not about God? What makes Satan more interesting than God?
So I´ll give you some points to think about:
All wisdom comes from God, so, all stupidity comes from ......... (fill in the blank).
Another fact for you to think about.
Take Care.

Questions are never bad. You can't truly believe in something if you aren't willing to ask questions.

start exercising your right to block users... the fact is some people are natural born trouble makers. you should feel flattered that you've got their attention but still block em and leave them at that.
