Well, you have to first take a look at who you are and what you want. If you're in a rut, the first step in getting out of it is to realize you're in a rut. Take stock in your abilities and see what you can do to improve areas you're deficient in. Then start actively looking around for new opportunities. Whatever your abilities are, you have to be a salesman and sell yourself in order to take advantage of those opportunities.

Being God fearing won't help. He's just a superstition. This is something you have to do on your own. Being service minded is good, but you also have to be ambitious to get out of a rut.

At Matthew 6:22, Jesus advises us to keep our eye simple. Then later on at 6:33 it says to seek the kingdom first and all other things will be added to us. His apostles were constantly debating on who was the greatest among them and who would sit at his right hand, etc.

Jesus lived in a way that showed he did not aspire to elevate himself above his "brothers" (even though he had the power and authority to do so). Remember he said whoever is like this child is the one who is great among you? He was talking about humility.

Jesus' lowliness is what made him great. The bible says (I think it's in Philippians 2) that whoever exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Also it says that Jesus never gave consideration to be equal to God. But he was raised to a position of high authority by God himself.

So, in that he left us the pattern for us to follow closely (1 Peter 2:21), we can learn from his life. We should all aspire to make the preaching work our lot in life. A simple job to provide for our families is all we have.

The bible says that we should store up treasures in heaven. Know why? Because of what 1John 2:15-17 says. I'll let you read that on your own.

You have to understand that all of God's servants are always low in resources. We have to humble ourselves and realize that all of our riches are stored in Heaven, not on earth. Everything will pass away until God restores what is meant to be everlasting.

We need to give our lives away and work like we're working for God. He will bless you a hundred times when your heart is pure and you do what is pleasing in His sight.
