The Old Testament was written from around 600 BCE.
The main authors were: Jeremiah, Baruch (600 BCE- 590 BCE) with help of Persians and then Nehemiah and Ezra from 450 to 420 BCE (again with help of Persians).
See the Supreme Bible of God which gives you all the source texts from which the Bible was written as well as the Biblical texts.

+++Is the Bible fact or fiction+++
If we take just one character, Moses, did Moses ever exist? or was Moses in fact based on the real historic figure of Pharaoh Akhenaten?
The Essene High Priests exiled at Qumran (Dead Sea Scrolls etc) certainly believed the Torah was pure fiction and based on Akhenaten. One of their most treasured relics was
the Copper Scroll on which is written in Greek:
"Akhenaten is also Zadok". (in other words Akhenaten is Moses/Aaron )...
See:
http://one-faith-of-god.org/old_testament/sources/copper_scroll/copper_scroll_0010.htm
Or maybe the instruction from Nehemiah to the Temple on Elephantine Island around 420 BCE on the "brand new" ceremony of Passover is a clue that the Old testament Bible is a made up story?
See:
http://one-faith-of-god.org/old_testament/apocrypha/passover/passover_0010.htm
+++What did Jesus think?+++
Jesus founded the Nazarenes, also known as the gnostics.
http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/nazarenes/nazarenes_0010.htm
Jesus believed the god of the old testament was not god, but satan, the ultimate deceiver pretending to be god.
This of course makes perfect sense, for any god that commands its followers to kill, has to be twisted and evil. Any God that is "jealous" is "vengeful" clearly cannot be the creator of the universe, but some lesser deity.
However, the Sadducee High Priests with Paul of Tarsus created the parasite religion called christianity to deceive even those who thought they follow Jesus.
http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/founders_christianity/founders_christianity_0000.htm
2/3rd of the New Testament is openly accepted as Paul. So when people claim to follow the Bible because they believe in Jesus, it is really Paul they follow, not Jesus.

Archeologists have found transcripts from the old testament dating thousands of years ago and it matches what we have today. Scribes who copied these transcripts were very careful with their work. The King James Bible is the Bible that has been transcribed through the years. Newer versions are not. There are more than 4,000 copies of the New Testament that have survived to now. Also, many of the prophecies in the Bible have been fulfilled. These were not vague, but very specific prophecies. One cannot ignore the Bible and discover the very things that prove it is true. You might try reading "Know Why You Believe" if you are truly interested. This is a great book by a man who set out to disprove Christianity, and became a Christian because of the facts.

This is a difficult question to ask online, because the credibility of the Bible can only be seen in a person's life.
I can tell you that when I started out as a Christian, I had no clue the Bible was absolute truth. But when I apply what the Bible says to my life, my life becomes richer and fuller.
After over 30 years of relying upon the Bible's truths, I have yet to find a single instance where it was not true. But there is no way for you to know that, since you and I do not know each other.

Every text exists and is interpreted by means of human readers. Why on earth would you preach Christianity by any other means?
They're not codes. It's literature. You could read it every day for the rest of your life and still find comfort. It's an ethic that holds from beginning to end.
The dictionary also comes in quite handy. Jesus is known as the Word or Logos. (John 1:1) He taught fisherman how to be public speakers and scripture writers.
People seem to be familiar with philosophy only, hence the reliance on "personal insights." The Bible condemns philosophy, in Colossians 2:8, for example. Philosophy, as Nietzsche put it, mummifies its subjects. It is interested in the being, rather than the becoming. Growth only occurs if you leave behind "idle notions" and worship of angels, according to Colossians 2:18, 19.

A lot of people ask questions of faith...especially in the Religion and Spirituality forum. So turning to a religious book is a good start to help answer the question in many cases.
The credibility I hold for Scripture is that I see truth in it. I can read it and see how it applies to my life and let it be a guide (as I do with other religious texts.)

There is a dispute on the date of Birth of Jesus. Some says it is 25th Dec. and some one else says 5th Jan. There is an old testament and a new testament. There are cross references to names like Abraham - Ibrahim in both Koran and Bible. So which one you choose. The point is just believe in your God and do not do any research on it. If you are a strong believer, nothing can shake you from your belief.
I believe in my religion and nothing can shake my belief because it is one of the most ancient religion.

I agree - how do we really know where it came from, putting aside the opinions of people, basing their staunch belief in the truth of it on blind faith. How do we know, 2000 years from now, someone isn't going to dig up an ancient copy of The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe, and cite that as being the word of the one true God, Aslan the lion?

Ok, then. I'll be brief. Everything that is contained in the Bible is truthful and esp. the prophecies that we see being fulfilled even before our eyes today.
Foolish ones however, will not survive Armageddon nor will they be resurrected after Armageddon. Those who never knew true Godly principles but are not true Christians will have a second change at life after Armageddon, but those who rebel and blasphemine Jehovah God and his standards today up to Armageddon will receive a resurrection of judgment.

There are many things that make the bible very very credible compared to all other books printed in the world.
You see, the bible is the all-time best selling book. All Time!
It has been read by many people and caught the attention of many readers who wanted/want to know the truth.
Why is the bible so precious and unique?
Let's cite some reasons.
The bible is a book which contains records of the past (historical), present (reality), and future (Prophetic).
Some books contain past and present, but not prophetic.
When the bible predicts something, it happens.
That's what makes it so credible.
For example, in the bible, 2000 years ago, the Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 24:24,
"For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. "
Imagine living in those days (about 2000 years ago). In that time, being called a Christian was not the same as in our time.
Today, there are many people who are claiming that they're Christians. But in the time of the Lord Jesus Christ himself, Christians are persecuted. Some are killed.
In that time when Christians or being called a Christian means persecution, the Lord said that there will come a time when many shall come in His name and shall say "I am Christ" and shall deceive many.
Let's read more.
Matthew 24:5-8,
"For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and shall lead many astray.
And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled: for these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines and earthquakes in divers places.
But all these things are the beginning of travail."
You see, wars, earthquakes, famines, these things are presently happening. This was said by the Lord 2000 years ago and it's happening in our time.
What does this mean? Let's read John 14:29,
"And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe. "
That's it.
It's God who have the capacity to know what will happen in the future.
Let's go to another thing which makes the bible so credible.
The bible speaks of doctrine which YOU, you yourself can attest came from God.
Doctrines like "Love your enemies". Let's read Matthew 5:44,
"But I say unto you, love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;"
This commandment came from God.
There are also many MANY scientific proof of the authenticity of the bible.
The Bible and Science does not contradict each other.
There are instances when the bible is proven more accurate than the science known to men. WHY?
Because the world/men have only verified that the earth is round in the 20th century. But the bible already spoke about the earth being round thousand of years ago. Let's read in Isaiah 40:22,
"It is he that sitteth above the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in; "
It is he that sitteth above the CIRCLE OF THE EARTH.
What about the Orbits?
Do you know that the bible already mentioned about the planetary orbits in the solar system?
Let's read from Job 26:7,
"He stretcheth out the north over empty space, And hangeth the earth upon nothing. "
HANGETH THE EARTH UPON NOTHING.
There are many other proofs of the credibility and authenticity of the bible.
