The better idea is to ask you doctor.

The first thing you should do is ask your doctor. He can give you the exact things you can and cannot do. Most times you will be told that going to the gym is fine. Unless there is a physical reason walking is usually considered one of the best forms of exercise. So the treadmill will be good. Another good one is the exercise bike though you might want to stay with the recumbent one especially as you get farther along. You should be able to do some weights but be sure to ask your doctor about them. If you do any classes such as aerobics and your doctor says you may continue be sure to tell the instructor that you are pregnant she will be able to tell you what movements you may want to avoid and what movements you may find helpful. Ladies who exercise often have shorter labors than women who don't and even better get back their shape much faster. Congrats on the baby and oodles of good luck.

Assuming you're a healthy woman with a normal pregnancy the best thing you can do in preparation for your delivery is to maintain your fitness.

Obviously as you progress in your pregnancy you're going to have to be careful about how much you do and be careful not to overheat.

Swimming is the most excellent way to stay in shape when pregnant. Walking is also fantastic and provided you dont' fall off the treadmill there is no reason you couldn't continue to use it.

I think the fitter and healthier your body is, the better your labour and delivery. Women often don't link the term 'labour' with the physical endurance that is required to get through delivering a baby. Athletes don't run a marathon without training--why would a pregnant woman stop exercising knowing she will have to exert at least that much energy delivering her baby!

Don't go mad trying to lose weight, eat sensibly and healthily (don't fall in to the 'eating for two' trap!) and maintain safe exercise and you'll do well. Also remember, the best time to lose weight is after you've had your babe!

Personally, I was on the thin side when I became pregnant. (at 23 weeks I'm still barely showing.) However, in the books and information I've read, it seems to be advisable to NOT lose weight while pregnant, as it's can be harmful to the baby. However, from what I've also read, light exercises such as walking, including a treadmill, is okay. In my early pregnancy, I used our treadmill. However, it broke one day when my husband was using it and he returned it. It worked out well. Soon after the weather became favorable for outdoor walking (which I find to be much more mentally and spiritually stimulating) and the money from the return of the treadmill was needed for a car repair.

As has already been suggested, talk with your doctor.

Doctor must advise, but many pregnant women can do light jogging or treadmill. Be careful! and good luck
