We all know about the scam that forced the government to recognise "Jedi" as a religion (albeit a pretty nonchalent one)
but on further investigation, does anyone else think that, joking aside, it makes a whole lot of sense?
Jedi are the guardians of peace in the galaxy (lets call it earth for arguments sake)
Jedi use their powers to defend and protect, never to attack others.
Jedi respect all life, in any form.
Jedi serve others rather than ruling over them, for the good of the galaxy.
Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training.
Personally, I reckon we could role a whole heap of athesists, potential religious followers and maybe even some converts into this.
Seems like rather than downtreading others, it allows a pursuit of personal advancement for the benefit of others. So rather than believing in a god, we believe in a way of life!
Doesn't that seem more realistic and appealing?

Jedi rules are generally based on the tenets of other religions. They are as idealistic as Christianity or other religions.

Ive thought about this too.
But more or less wished that everyone who followed a religion was like that :D
rather than turning a jedi life style into a religion.
also, remember how the dark side gained control?
those jedis who were fully trained and knew the difference between right and wrong, made an active decision to gain more power than the rest...they wanted to oppress and by oppressing they would gain more power over others!
unfortunately this is exactly how real life is like..
a jedi does not profess to the existence of a god, so the really religious lot wont buy into it ^^

Unity Church (headquartered in Lee's Summit/Kansas City, Missouri) teaches "There is only One Power, One Presence---God, the Good Omnipotent." Everything on our slow-moving lowest-frequency finite plane and everyone is composed of this One Presence---this Infinite Good. We are Holograms of Omnipotence, unlimited in our power and potential once we accept our own divinity. Miracles are the natural order and are achieved through ALLOW rather than DO. To say that humans are somehow "separate" from God is impossible because then God is rendered finite, and this simply cannot be. As to the "Christ" concept, I think fanatics should view zeitgeistthemovie and The Addendum and then re-think their perspectives on a more metaphysical plane. The Hawaiians have a rather beautiful Huna religion that includes the "aumakua" (the closest translation we have is "utterly trustworthy parental pair spirits"), which is an intermediary (or Christ-like) energy something like the ozone layer which protects us. There is no such thing as loss, lack, or limitation despite all appearances to the contrary.

I think..if you look at the Taoist texts eg, The Tao Teh Ching which was written before Taoism and Buddhism followed similar beliefs. You will find that Jedi and Taoism are very similar: replace the word Galaxy with Universe and the 'FORCE' with the 'WAY' and you have a very close match. So you may be on to something

Poor Steven, people really don't like your question do they!
Rather than becoming a Jedi, which would obviously mark you out as being a prat, try looking at Tibetan Buddhism. Same sort of teaching but at least has the weight of tradition behind it.

Makes as much sense as any other religion.
There's some very positive live affirming messages as guidelines regardless of it's source.
Although I'd be putting it in the same catagory as the Discordian faith. One that recognises the humour element of religion.

Yes, but they also have a big flaw of the idea of mind control. You don't want a ton of people running around waving their hand and saying "You will give me that root beer float"
And Georgiasnakemaroon, Steven Spielberg had nothing to do with Star Wars.

The so-called 'Jedi' religion is nothing more than meanless hogwash.I wonder why the government does'nt do any necessary actions to put down or control wacky religious cults.I would say Steven Spielberg won't be to happy about this.
