I was just given mandatory OT which means that I'm going to miss my optometrist appointment which has been scheduled for two months and I'm on my last pair of contacts!

I have a lot of sympathy for you as I have a similar but lesser problem. I also have one pair left, though I'm going for my annual test this afternoon and I should have some more by the weekend or so. In the meantime I can't really go out (I never wear my glasses out as I get self-conscious about how I look in them or play sports or anything.

Mandatory overtime ? What you can't afford to be counted absent another day ? Because if it was me I just wouldn't go into work if I was down to my last pair of contacts and the appointment was made two months prior.

Uh, can they do that? I don't think that's legal.

If you can't get around it by talking to your boss, call your optometrist. They should be able to switch your appt and give/sell you a pair of disposable contacts to last you till then.

Sorry bud, I don't feel sorry for you. I wore my last pair of disposable contacts for almost ten months because it took me forever to get to the eye doc.

Wear your glasses in the meantime. Treat your contacts gently.

Talk to your supervisor and explain the situation. Ask him/her if you could leave long enough to go to your appt. then come back and make up the time you missed.
