If you want to eat before, assuming you don't have lots of time, then start with something small, such as a banana. Then if thats ok you could build up to eating more substantial breakfasts. Try and leave as much time as you have between eating and running though as it will reduce the discomfort you'll experience at first, when you get used to excercising on a full stomach you should be fine though. Some people struggle to excercise with undigested food in their stomach but if you get used to it it will be fine, but don't jump into having a full fry up straight off though!

You don't need to eat before running 3 miles. If you want something on your stomach drink some juice. Any thing you eat will be on your stomach for hours and will not give you energy, but can cause stomach distress.

Are you running on a treadmill or on the road? You can have anything light which gives you carbohydrates and proteins without being too heavy, like boiled eggs, corn flakes, fruits. eat light and wait for atleast 45 mins before you start running. Also sipping gatorade during exercise would help
