While shaving your head will work. There are other things you can do.
Try putting a mix of 1/4 cup of olive oil and 10 drops of tea tree oil in your hair. Put a shower cap on and leave overnight. Repeat once a week for 3 weeks. The oil will smother the adult lice and you will need to repeat to get rid of any nits that hatch.
You will also want to wash all of your bedding.

First, the longer you have lice, the more things and people around you will become infected with lice. That's why when someone gets it, they're supposed to immediately use a product to zap them and the eggs, and then wash -everything- they've come into contact with, including stuffed toys, backpacks, etc. Lice will stick to those things, which will keep bringing them back. Wet combing does not help with lice. And I've never heard of "mild lice"--if you have it, you have it, and you're risking other people by not getting rid of it. That's kind of selfish, and you should definitely go get a product. Saying you reject even the possibility of a product is simply selfish. Sorry. By doing that for 10-14 days, you will keep getting them, over and over, because they'll keep coming back from the environment you live in. It has to be a quick, one day event to get rid of it all, or you won't get rid of it.

Wash your hair every seven days with an anti-lice shampoo such as Nix or Rid for 3-4 weeks. It will kill newly hatched lice before they have a chance to lay new eggs.

you can just use the anti-nit shampoos etc - but the eggs don't 'wash' out, so you'll have to keep doing it. the only way to be sure you've got rid of the adult nits and eggs is to comb it with a nit comb.
