Your question indicates that you want to use god to get what you really want. Our entire lives are built around that strategy of using people to get what we want. Martin Buber (see reference below) called it the "I - it" versus the "I - Thou". Real love is never the "I - it". Christianity points toward God Who will change who we are so that we can love without seeking to use the beloved. His gift to us is love and therefore life.
The Christian idea is that God gives faith to those who seek Him but only those who seek Him to find Him, not to use Him. The reward for seeking God is finding God, not heaven for heaven is just a place for God and his sons and daughters to live.

Well, here is SOME of what I have gained since I became a Christian.
I have made new friends that like me for who I am.
I have gained confidence that I did not have before.
I have become a happier person.
I have found a purpose in life.
I have learned more about life.
I have received peace in my life.
I have a hope that I did not have before.
Most importantly, I have received salvation, a free gift provided by Jesus Christ. I know that I am forgiven for all of the evil that I do in this world.
I think that those are all great things. Maybe they're not what you're looking for, but they've definitely helped my life.

Comfort in the mist of a storm in life when no one else is around. Everlasting peace that knows no bounds. Love that is so unconditional even you can not grasp. Though these things are not tangible they breathe life into a soul that is dying to sin. I know doubt believe because I survived being hit by a train, had rare illness with no cure and was cured, had another illness with chronic pain that doctors could not cure but God almighty did. Though healing can be sought after by doctors what do you do when the doctors diagnois you and say you have only a limited time to live. And there is no treatment but we can make you comfortable. Yet I do know God was there and healed me. Doctors couldn't by Doc Jesus could. He done it twice in my life for illnesses that could not be doctorly treated.

It sounds like you are blaming your failure on God.
The things you will get from faith are up to you, God has given you the discriminative intelligence to choose the things you want in life and the power to fulfill your aspirations. The decision is up to you if you decide to embrace faith, take the intelligence and power to work for success; or not.
Read Deepak Chopras- Laws of Success or Parmahansa Yoganandas- Spiritual Secrets of Success.
Irrespective of the Religion you follow (I follow none other than my faith in God) these principles apply, provided that you choose the path of what is right, and enrich and enhance the lives of others.
The benefits you seek are waiting for you but you must seek them, so open your eyes and stop looking for excuses for not having what you desire.
Good luck and God bless you.

I've noticed, once I became a believer, I got rid of the need to ask annoying questions on message boards.

Christian believers that I've met generally seem to be a mob of losers.
I suspect the main benefit they get is that they've joined a losers' club and they can all comfort each other, while trying to sneer at the non-believers.

Just because you don't get something out of it doesn't mean other people don't.
This world would be a lot better if people respected eachothers beliefs a little more.

Jesus Christ gives me peace in a troubled world. Knowing the prophecies of His Word and what the future holds and how this is all going to play out, gives me hope for the future!
