I cant uninstall the Mcafee from my computer using add/remove software option. Eventually I went to the Programme Files folder and deleted most of the subfolders and files related to Mcafee one by one. But still I cant remove/delete a few files/folder since a dialogue is showing "access denied". How can I get rid of every single file related to Mcafee and erase the icon from the tray?

I have the problem almost every week, Mcafee do provide a tool to clean out the registry, but this only goes up 2006 version, and even then, it doesnt clean all, so manually editing the registry is the only way.

On 2007 it gets worst, its almost manual labour all the way if it doesnt want to come off.

Norton is terrible also as a product, but at leats they provide a web tool to remove all.

One would wonder ..why they have to make such tools ? if they take care in the way they design the software, the uninstaller should have done it all .. shouldnt it ??

To the other answers, the poster already said he cant remove it from Add/Remove software, yet the suggestion is to do just that ??

Try this: Go to the startup menu and click "search". Under "what do you want to search for?" click all files and folders. In "more adavnced options" check search system folders, search hidden files and folders, search subfolders, search tape backup. Under Look in: choose "my computer"above. Type in mcafee and click search. it should pull up all the mcafee files in your entire computer and you can delete them.
