I think that the popularity of tattoos has increased among the general population, especially young people, with their prevalence among sports figures and music industry performers. It's another form of modeling and identification, and probably cyclical in nature.

There's also the element of individuation. We all like to set ourselves apart from others, and the tattoo is certainly a way to accomplish that. The style of the tattoo, it's location on the body, and the meaning that it has for the individual wearer all contribute to the overall appeal.

I've seen an increase in tattoos on people at the nude beach, especially in areas that would otherwise be hidden from view when clothed.

I think that we may see an increase in tattoo removal as the young people who wear them today become older and find the look no longer appealing.

Because the body is another form of canvas - and tattoos are the amazing art that decorates said canvas. All of us tattooed people out there are really just walking art galleries.

Expression - sometimes words can't explain what you feel and people use tattoos to express that. Tattoos should be thought out very carefully as they are permanent expressions.

My brother has a canvas of tattoos and I often wonder if he thought out each one wisely.

I can't speak for everyone, but each one of my tattoos signifies an event in my life, i.e., the birth of my daughter, my milestone birthday, the death of my grandfather, etc. Just a little personal rememberance that I wish to keep with me always and what better way than to have a beautiful design on your body to commemorate a special event in your life.

Enjoy your day!

I have 2 of them and the reason I got them is because I find them very sexy and so does my husband. I have a green butterfly on the back of my shoulder and a sun with a face on my lower back. NOW... because of my bit of rebel side, I have a thunder bolt going through the sun to show that side of me ...I think tattoos are great.

everybody gets tattoos for different reasons so you would have to ask the individual. i got tattoos because i love the art of them. it is a fascinating process. i am also an art collector. canvas, paper, glass and skin. i have never gotten a tattoo to be trendy, cool, sexy, seductive, to fit in or to stand out. i have gotten them for myself because i like them. no other reason. my tattoos do have meaning but i get things that i like and that make me happy. pretty much everything i do in life i do because it makes me happy.
