The cat would land on it's feet, because the cat out weighs the bread and butter. The same is true for the butter on bread. It will land butter side down because the butter makes that side of the bread heavier. And I have no idea how a cat can land on their feet every time.

It depends on if you used real butter, margarine or I cannot believe it is not butter. Also the bread must be wheat bread since the proper atmospheric pressure from the whole wheat will help enable the gravity to persist in a manner that best describes this situation and helps us answer the question that the cat would land on its feet and the bread and butter would land on the butter side because I said so.

Bread lands butter side down due to physics.
Cats land feet side down because they have excellent sense of balance.
Bread on cat will not work because the cat will lick the butter off and the bread will no longer have extra weight. :)

A buttered bread stops being a buttered bread once it's strapped on a cat's bag. Ergo the law of physics on the cat's landing on its feet will still apply, ergo, the buttered bread will remain as when it was strapped.

Actually, a cat does not always land on their feet. Ever put it a half inch to the ground & drop them. Almost always they land on their side or sometimes on their back. lol.
Seriously though:
Q. Do cats really always land on their feet?
A. No, not always and they can sustain nasty injuries falling from even relatively low heights, just in case you were thinking of testing the theory.
However they do have an inbuilt sensory system that allows them to sometimes right themselves midfall so that they do indeed land feet first.
For more info about that just go to:

The whole toast thing is interesting though & yes I'm sure it's because the side with the pb has more weight & the heavier side will fall first. I think I should test that on my cat, just to annoy him, he deserves to be pestered. lol

This is a very old physics question. The answer of course is the cat will spin in mid air and never land. The is the perpetual motion machine which could provede unlimited energy for the world but naturally the oil companies and the Gov't don't want us to know.

I have to say that I think the cat would land on its side because it would be upset about the bread being on its back and this would make it loose its balance.

I'd say the cat would land on its side.... because it would be struggling to get the bread off its back and would not pay attention to the fall.

I'd say the cat would still land on its feet because it is heavier than the piece of toast
