They really pussified the Army and they might actually allow cell phones now. But no laptops. The Army recruiter will provide you with a list of the items you are required to bring and optional items you are allowed.

If you are too soft and need to call your mommy you are probably going to fail. You need to toughen up. Think of Boot Camp as a tough initiation. Know when you graduate you will be part of the team. I wouldn't want to bring a cell phone. I would worry that the D.I. would use it in some way to punish or see it as a sign of weakness.

Try and remember you are training to be at war and are preparing mentally and physically.

Nope, leave it at home. You ain't gonna be able to use it until you graduate from AIT. It'll probably be obsolete by the time you get done with basic and AIT, so do yourself a favor and leave the cellphone and laptop at home.

Keeps the Drill Sgt's from picking on you for being such a sissy. Hell, if I was you, just pack a change of clothing (enough for a weekend) and that's it; everything you own will be packed in a room for a long time and when you graduate, most of it will not fit you anyways; the Army will give you everything you will ever need to wear, right down to the underwear, so if you are going to basic soon, travel with a small gym bag and nothing else. You will remember my words when you get to the Processing center.

I've been in the Army National Guard for 6 1/2 years. When I went to basic back in 2001 at Ft. Knox the only luxury we had was cough drops.

Things have changed in the Army since I joined in 1984, but I doubt they have changed THAT much.

When I was a recruiter (1997-2000), we gave all our kids a packing list. You know, this you will need, this you should bring, this you should not bring. Check with your recruiter and get this list.

To answer your question, tho, NO! You won't have time to call or play games on your computer. You won't have the energy to text or chat. If you take them with you, they will be locked up, along with your civilian clothes, and you will get them back when you graduate.
