If you are not a resident of the apartment complex, it is not illegal but it is trespassing. If the apartment complex complains, or any of it's residents complain, then you will be asked (ordered) to leave.

Also, various local communities have laws that can be applied, such as vagrancy, that can be used to move you out of the lot.

Depending on the state and what sort of contract the complex has with the police dept. For example where I'm from unless the police have permission to say patrol a mall parking lot they have no authority there to ticket for loitering and will not help you if your car gets hit in the parking lot... trust me on that one. Still probably better to be safe than sorry though.

First of all, get to basics. If your car is parked legally (i assume that is what you mean) you can sleep in it all that you want. Have you ever seen a sign that read, no sleeping allowed?

I think it is illegal whether or not signs are posted.
