He was a vampire!
He wanted to spread vampirism to his followers and that's why Religion sucks the life out of those exposed to it!
Think about it. Rising from the dead. Advocating ritual of drinking blood.
The whole thing about vampires being scared of crosses could be that Vampires don't like to be reminded of what Romans used to do to them.

As others have already explained, this cannot be taken as literally eating his flesh and drinking his blood. Why? If you'll read a little further in John, Jesus Himself explains that He is speaking spiritually.

"On hearing it, many of his disciples said, 'This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?'

"Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, 'Does this offend you? What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are SPIRIT and they are life." -John 6:61-63

What was the hard teaching? That He was the living bread that *came down from Heaven.* Many knew Him as the carpenter's son. It was hard for them to fathom that He came from Heaven. That is why the Pharisees so often accused Him of blasphemy - because He claimed equality with God.

Also during the Lord's Supper, Jesus is present with His disciples. How can they literally eat his flesh and drink His blood when He was right there with them?

Jesus was describing a new practice involving actual bread and wine that was to symbolize his flesh and blood. While he was instituting the celebration of the Lord’s Evening Meal, Jesus said to his close followers: “This cup means the new covenant by virtue of my blood, which is to be poured out in your behalf.” To the same small group of apostles, he added: “You are the ones that have stuck with me in my trials; and I make a covenant with you, just as my Father has made a covenant with me

I don't know, but he would have made a hell of a good director for Night of the Living Dead.

Rob Zombie would also be proud.

P.S. Did I mention that endocannibalism is a practice found in other cultures and religions, like the Yanomamo tribe of Brazil and Venezuela? They drink the ashes of their dead.

Lots of religions have similarities in myth and culture.

As a side note, I was Catholic for 13 years, so I can tell you how they tasted. The Eucharist tastes like cardboard mixed with styrofoam and maybe a little dough, not quite human flesh. I never got to try the wine, but I bet Guiness is better.

John 6:51
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

The living bread we eat as Christians is His Word the Holy Bible. It is our spiritual nourishment.

John 6:56
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.

"Drinks my blood" symbolizes our acceptance for His sacrifice on the cross and His blood washes away our sins.

It was symbolic of Mark 14:22 where Christ administered the sacrament. He said that unless we partake of his body and drink his blood, we have no life in us.

The sacrament is a reminder of the sacrifice Christ made for us. I do not believe in that the sacrament literally turns into the body and blood of Christ. It is all purely representational so that we remember the sacrifice He made for us and our requirement to repent of the things we do wrong so His sacrifice can be meaningful in our lives.

If we partake of the sacrament, we will have His spirit with us.

accept Him into your life. Become more like Him naturally. as symbolism when you eat bread and wine/grape juice in church. Jesus used a lot of symbolism in the Bible. you cannot take everything literally.
