Caffeine curbs your appetite.
If I drink coffee in the morning on an empty stomach I don't need to eat until 3pm.
If I don't have coffee I am starving by 10.

I think everyone metabolizes drugs a little differently, so it kind of depends on the drug in question, and that person's body, as well as other factors such as body fat, how rested you are.

Since I am completely and shamelessly addicted to caffeine (drug of choice is diet soda) I know I can drink it no matter what or when and I don't have jitters, upset stomach, or any mania, even sleeplessness, associated with overstimulating your system. I have a tolerance. When it comes to caffeine, I can drink anyone under the table. It doesn't seem to matter if I ate anything or not.

Having said that, there are certain instances where I seem like a real pansy and my tolerance for caffeine (?) is very low. I can't drink energy drinks like Red Bull, I am very sensitive to coffee (though I love it) and I can't drink SUGARED beverages at all. All make me very queasy, no matter what I have eaten, or whether I am tired, PMSing or whatever other biochemical conditions I am dealing with that day. I simply cannot take those things, even though I can drop a 2liter Diet Mountain Dew every couple hours all day with no jitters, full or hungry, and then go to sleep.

All this to say, it doesn't affect me any differently based on eating or not, but I think for most people, eating isn't the only variable in the equation of their tolerance for caffeine. At least for some of us, there is no more buzz. We have to ingest a lot just to stay out of a coma.

Firstly...let's settle the point that alcohol does not "effect" you more on an empty stomach. It effects you the same. It just gets absorbed faster. With caffeine there is a similar effect. But it also is very rough on the stomach and a lot of people get stomach aches drinking caffeinated beverages on an empty stomach.

I think it gives you a stomach ache more because you're stomach releases acid when there is no food to digest, but I don't think you get the energy effect any more or less.
