I need some changes in my life. I am tired of living in the desert and I never liked living here in the first place and I do not get along with my dad. I am 15 almost 16 and its gotten to the point that once I get my drivers licensce and a car I am thinking about running away even though I know that is not a good idea. I honestly dont think I can take two more years of living at home. I have no relatives that live nearby and no friends that I would be able to stay with if I needed to. I have always been independent and I've taken care of myself for years . I have a job but I would not be able to afford an apartment on what I get paid but I do think I would be able to support myself if I lived with a couple of roomates. Help. Advice please.

Before you leave home, you must prepare. It will be hard for you out there. Do you have family in another part of the country that would let you stay for awhile? If not, you need to start saving every penny. Be sure that you have a nice bank roll before you leave. Also arrange to at least get a GED. There are very few jobs available for someone without at least a high school education.

In order to do anything successfully in life, you must have a plan, and a backup plan. Don't leave without one, or you will be begging to come back very soon! You can apply for other jobs over the internet. Just go to the newspaper websites, look at the classifieds. See which city or town has the most to offer. Check out how expensive and plentiful the apartments are. Apply for jobs and apartments by fax or e-mail.

If you want to be on your own, you will need to act mature. It is definitely not easy, but if you are mature enough, you can do it. Good Luck!!!

That reminds me of that film, ah, what's it called.. Pay It Forward! Very touching. Anyway, working with organisations is of course wonderful, but, just think about the people who don't have those things? Do you know the sheer amount of homeless people there are? Or old people with absolutely no one, NO ONE. Can you imagine how awful that must be? I would delve into something like that because those things pain me so so much. I don't exactly know how you would find these people [I will do some Googling, but I don't know where you live], but I don't know, even helping a homeless person get back on their feet at all? I'll have a think about this and edit if/when I come up with something. Anyway, have I ever changed a life? I'd love to say I have, but, I don't think so, at least not to my recollection. I don't think donating money counts. I did volunteer for a while at a homeless shelter though. My plans for the future however are different. Has my life been changed? Eh, yes I suppose, for the worse though. But I'm not going to write a sob story, I have no right to do so with all of the people who are suffering much more than I am. So, just take it as a yes. XD

First things first, focus on what really matters. Finish High School, save money to where you are ACTUALLY able to live while you are looking for a place to live at, I know its hard but as much as possible, try getting along with your dad. Try to understand things from his point of view and where he's coming from. Most of all, being independent doesn't just mean you are able to take of yourself. Independence means you can STAND on your OWN, and taking in the bad with the good. All hardships are not for long. Its a test for the future endeavors. When you finish high school, and have saved enough then do things the right way. When you do things in due time, you'd be amaze on how far you're able to come. Running away will only bring you more problems than you'd want but most of all, that's not being "independent" rather its cowardly.

Please do not run away-that is never the answer. There are too many sickos out there that would try to take advantage of you. I am sorry to hear that you don't get along with your dad. I assume your mom isn't around? Have you tried talking to your dad? What's his beef? You seem like a responsible person. You have a job so I don't understand what is going on with you guys. If your mom is still around, maybe you guys can decide on a answer that will benefit you. I really feel for you. I live with relatives and they are driving me crazy and I am an adult! I will keep you in my prayers that a solution will come and your dad will act like a father and not a dictator. Take care of yourself...

While I don't usually say running away is a good idea I have had friends that have done so and become successful since. It does take a lot of hard work. No more going to the movies, eating out, buying new video games, ect...
If you really want to do so go to court. I forget what it's called but you can be emancipated early. That makes you an adult in most senses so that you can be out on your own legally. You do need to have a valid reason to do so though.
I wish you luck in whatever you decide.

slow down, take it easy, you've lived this long with him, you can continue to ?you need a plan of action, so that when your 18 you have enough money, bills are all paid, you can come up with a good resume, so while your waiting, and your out of school?get 2 jobs, that would keep you away from home, you'd be making lots of money and to busy to spend any of it.also do some checking on where you want to go?live?how much is the cost of apartments?any jobs close by?hows the night life?so do some research first, don't just go run off and have to come back like a puppy with his tail between his legs, be smart, take your time, make plans and goals, good luck, god bless

If you leave home before school is finished (what is it 1 or 2 more years?) ... You wil never catch up to where you think your life should be. I know its hard and you think you will go crazy. but use your time there to your advantage.

Keep working that job and be the kind of employee that gets a great reference letter. that way you can apply for jobs from your current home and have a place organized so that when you do leave you will have somewhere to go. You wont waste all the money you will have saved on trying to get settled.

You are still young, Running away is not the answer. Meet some friends at work, At your age I am should you can find some activities in your community. Don't take on a responsibility that you will regret. Enjoy it while living at home.

i just turned 16 in march! i know exactly how you feel!! i have thought about running away many of times!! i have cut myself b4, i have done stupid **** just to try to get everything out of my mind for one night!! my parents, i can't stand them!! Seriously i don't think that i can take two more years living in my parents house either, but we are 16, could we really make it out in the world by ourselves, yea we got friends, and one of my friends parents said that i could move in anytime that i wanted too, but my mom said that she would call the law if i did!! and i don't want to get them in trouble for my stupid ****!! it's just 2 more years, you have already been there almost 16, just try to have fun with it, because before you know it, you'll be 18 paying your own bills, and taking care of yourself, and it's gonna be hard!! just try to enjoy it, i'm not saying try and get along with them, just push through it, your almost there!

Only you can make the changes you feel you need. But, be careful there is a big difference between "want" and "need". God Bless.
