In order to swim for weight loss, you need to swim aerobically for at least an hour 5 times a week. Your body only starts to burn fat when your glycogen level is low and that would takes around 30mins or more for it to do so.

Any form of exercise will help you as long as its for 30 minutes a day. Whether that be swimming, tennis, rollerblading, frisbee, walking... whatever doesnt feel like exercise even though it is, is usually more successful.
Keep in mind that eating healthy needs to happen too if your goal is weight loss.

Yoga can be a great friend in every diet. It's all about hormones balance. There are no "bad" hormones. But when hormones get unbalanced, bad things happen in your body. Your body releases cortisol when you're under stress. It's part of the whole “fight or flight” response. Increased cortisol levels could be making you fat. The kind of fat you are most likely to store from elevated cortisol is called visceral fat — the dangerous belly fat that’s linked to diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.
I'm following this great online program that teaches how to use YOGA to lose weight. You should check it out as well. This is the link of the site: http://yogafitness.toptips.org

swimming requires a gr8 deal of effort and this burns out a huge calories . and coz you are in cold water your body has to produce more heat to keep it self warm at around 30 degree celcius which is normal body temp , so calories are required to be burnt for this also .so i'd surely say it helps reduce weight
