I agree with you as we also have a few graduating and also in your dilema. I think what we are going to do is the better we know the graduate the more we'll give. For instance, if you have say a friends kid graduating and a niece or nephew give the relative more unless you are closer personally to your friends kid. I know for us we have a nephew graduating and we hardly know him. Honestly I think we're only going to give him $25. I work with a girl at my part time job and know her pretty well and she is a good kid getting ready to start beauty school and I think i'll probably give her 35$. Good luck, no matter what its going to be expensive!

personally, i don't think graduating from high school is such a feat that deserves a large sum of money, or any sum of money for that matter. if their parents want to purchase the child a car or give them jewelry or something, that is their perogative. a gift card with a reasonable amount should suffice. or perhaps a simple pat on the back "congratulations, now go on to college".

Only give graduation gifts to people who are important to you. You do not have to give a gift to somebody you really do not know. This not like Halloween; you don't have to give something "sweet" to everybody. However, you should do SOMETHING to recognize their accomplishment. A simple card or letter could suffice. It is the best wishes or the "intent" that is important.

When I graduated from high school, my paternal grandmother sent me a card, and that was sufficient. It is the best wishes and love that is important to both the giver and recipient.

For a gift or evena gift car $15-$25 is fine, not too much and not too little :)
