I read somewhere a long time ago that it has to do with pheromones, those little scent molecules which have to do with sexual attraction, but which we cannot actually smell. (Our brain recognizes them, but they are so subtle we can't actually smell them with our noses).

The three areas on a person's body that release the most scent are the underarms, the groin area, and the soles of the feet. Since hair on the soles of the feet is impractical, and not found in any of the primates, we don't have it either. But the hair in the groin area and the underarms is believed to be there mainly to act as a trap for pheromones, so we can basically store them as they are made, and then give them off to prospective mates.

Pubic hair also simply acts as a visual sign that a person is ready to mate. Since it comes so early, when most people aren't mature enough to have babies, it seems kind of silly, but the fact is that until quite recently in the human timeline, females were bearing babies almost as soon as they hit puberty.

It also has to do with protection of the skin beneath it. If you notice, a person gets it in the groin area and in the underarm area. Those two places are, aside from the neck, the most vulnerable places for large arteries. The femoral runs right by the groin, and the brachial runs inside your arm, right past your armpit. Some specialists speculate that the hair in those areas acts to protect those two vulnerable spots.

My personal feeling is its purpose is to be waxed, shaved, plucked and lasered into submission ;)

Where ever there is a substantial amount of hair there is a substantial amount of oil. That oil AND the hairs prevent chaffing and friction burn from the motions of sex and also pubic hair can stimulate the clitoris during sex. Sort of like a french-tickler type mechanism, especially if the hair is partially shaved and semi-barbed.

Pubic hair also protects the female genitalia from external bacteria or debris that could accumulate from excess sweating and moisture so pubic hair and hair in general absorbs moisture. Pubic hair also brings some discreetness to the presentation of the genitals. Pubic hair is graceful and leaves a bit for the imagination rather than just bald meaty-looking genitalia all exposed for one purpose without any artistic presence what so ever. Pubic hair is also for decoration.

I hope this helps.

Peace.

To provide a larger surface area for the body to emit pheromones and hormones to attract the opposite sex.

According to Dr Oz......Pubic hair is there to act like lubricant during sex. Think about it. You have a 120 pound woman astride you and you have bare skin and she has bare skin. Think of the friction of skin to skin. But if their is hair there it buffers the pubic area so that the friction does not tear at your skin.

The same reason we have hair under our armpits. they're made for catch and hold pheromones produced by the body. But being advanced human beings, pheromones nowadays kinda smell...icky.

Pubic hair is like the hair on the rest of our bodies. it protects us from germs and pesticides and from other foreign bodies entering our skin. Its thicker in our private parts because our genitalia is more sensitive and needs to have a little 'thicker' protection.
