I want to know what car would be good to buy for under 50,000 that would beat almost anything(normal other than Ferrari, etc) in a streetrace?

I would buy my '70 Olds 442 back. I've out ran ZR-1 vette in it before at the drag strip
I have also out ran a '70 SS LS-6 w/a 4:56 gear w/a LS-7 camshaft and heads on the 1/4mi w/o gas! And my car only had a 3:23 gear thur the mufflers!

If your talking 1/4 mile street race I would get a 68-72 Nova and spend the money on the engine/tranny/rear and chassis. Novas are the best drag cars ever built, bar none. They are light and still have a long wheelbase so they don't get sideways as easy as a corvette, etc.
If I wanted to beat everyone in all around racing I would go with a Corvette and add a supercharger.

alot of the muscle has gone out of the today's cars and was traded for the gas mileage ---- get a hemmings motor news book --- look at the muscle cars and compare prices and the slick beauty of a re-built ""chevelle"" or something that you consider "CHERRY" ----- and take your own decision on a really fast and fine automobile ---- chevy & ford are safe bets for older cars as the parts are still available (parts are a part of your decision to buy a "fast" car ..... good luck and please do not get "sold" a car let this be the fact that you made the choice and you picked the ride ............ '

A street race, I will assume you mean on an actual road where there are turns, curves and such. If this is correct, I would suggest the Elise by Lotus.

A Toyota Supra. Handsdown. The best invention ever created. I work on numerous Supras daily and they are an amazing automobile.

well if its blasting acceleration that you want a corvette is your best bet, a 1yr old Z06 cost a lot less than 50k
If sharp handling is also on your list, I'd go for an M3, a 1-2 yr old m3 manual will cost less than 50k.
There are loads of choices nowadays, it all depends on your priority list.

Why go for speed when you can go for luxury???Get a Lexus...you can put a v8 in it and beat just about anyone...you never get pulled over because most cops think u can get it thrown out and if they wont pull u over that means u can drink and drive....
