When employers start going through their large stack of resumes, they give a 5-second glance to each one and if something caught their eye, they'll put it in the "to read later" pile or otherwise it gets filed it in the "circular file".

The objective is the first and most important element of your resume because it's main purpose is that of a marketing piece. Don't forget this! It must grab attention in 5 seconds. The objective statement is how to do this. Most people ramble on about how they are looking for a company with a shared vision where they will be able to utilize their skills, etc...blah, blah, blah... (You've lost the reader).

Give the reader what she wants! What does the reader want? In your case, a customer service rep.

Your objective statement should be this:

"Employment Objective: Customer Service Representative"

Nothing else. It will stand out, is exactly what she is looking for, creates all kinds of "white space" on your resume so you can then list your skills and accomplishments, etc.

It also is focused on the employer's need. Employers simply get bored with self serving objective statements and if you haven't grabbed their attention in 5 seconds they have moved on...really, think about it...they may have 100 resumes to go through.

I urge you to read the free tutorial on this most important topic at:

I never put an objective as my objective is to "Get a Job."
