These dreams have often shown up through the past 2 or 3 years, and they always follow the same sequence. I'm watching a horror movie on television, and I turn it off halfway through. Then the horror movie comes to life in my dream. Last night, in my dream, I was being followed by a spirit in a mirror (through the movie I turned off in the tv). In the dream before that, a couple of months ago, I think it was a monster of some kind, I think vampires. These dreams are really starting to disturb me, and I always end up running around in the dreams, until I wake up. Also, I don't even watch horror movies or like them in real life, so I'd really like to stop these nightmares pronto. Thanks.

I'm not an expert on interpreting dreams, but I can point you to some sites that may be able to help you out.

Dream Moods offers an extensive section on "chase dreams." While your specific dream has some other elements to it (horror movies, things coming to life that were once on TV), the essence of the dream seems to be a chase.

Here's what "Dream Moods had to say: "Running is an instinctive response to physical threats in our environment. Often in these dream scenarios, you are being pursued by some attacker, who wants to hurt or possibly kill you. You are running away, hiding, or trying to outwit your pursuer. Chase dreams may represent your way of coping with fears, stress or various situations in your waking life. Instead of confronting the situation, you are running away and avoiding."

The site also goes on to mention that it may help to try to identify who or what the pursuer represents. Is the pursuer a person or is a side of yourself that you're not happy with?

Again, I'm not an expert, but I can relate to dreams of anxiety. I still have the one about "forgetting" to go to Spanish class all semester and then having to take the final exam. I'll probably be having that one when I'm 90.

Below are the sources and a few other dream dictionaries to check out.

I too had a recurring dream. I made up silly label for it: the "make a choice" dream because always it was about a past relationship and I couldn't determine who I was supposed to be with(which was silly because I've been happily married for 9 years--they stopped a few months ago-) but the person passed away so maybe that's why the dream came, who knows. but I hated it.--all the scenarios in the dreams were constantly different but the underlying issue was "make a choice" So I would wake up, upset about having the dream and laugh it off like"oh I had the stupid ol' "make a choice" dream again. And it went away shortly after I started in with the nick naming of that dream-they had lasted 5 years at least once a week consistently.

Maybe you could call it the " Unfinished horror flick comes to life" dream--I'm sure you can do better than that but there's the idea.

Have you tried watching a real horror flick all the way thru with someone you feel safe with and just laugh at it--like "oh, that was so fake, ect." or "here they come with the blood and guts again--you know they really use ketchup" just try to lighten it up I guess is what I'm trying to say.

I dunno, it could help.

You might try taking the dream to the end. A while back I kept having a dream about building a motorcycle.Everytime the dream would start out at the very begining and I would get it almost complete then things would get confusing and I would wake, and start all over the next time I had that dream again. Finally one night I had had enough and just finished it.That was the end of that dumb dream. Also, when I was very young I found that you do have some control in your dreams. I would be very afraid then I would add something silly and it would change the dream to something more in my favor.Good luck.

When I start struggling with disturbing dreams of some sort, I generally start praying before I go to bed. I don't know if you're particularly spiritual, but if you are, you might want to consider that. I imagine there's a lot more that can be done.

I used to have chronic dreams of being imprisoned, so I know the feeling of recurring nightmares. Ultimately, it was caused by my waking fear of being imprisoned (there's a story behind that but it's a private story. Sorry). When my fear of imprisonment went away, my dreams went away as well.

I suppose the logical conclusion is to combat your waking fears. If your fears are subconcious, then I don't know how to fight them short of talking to a psychologist (which may be overkill)

Maybe you always think about it or before you sleep you think about it. Just forget it and try thinking of another thing.. and do you pray? Because if you don't, maybe that's one of the reasons.. Trust me, as far as I know, I didn't have a sleep without dreaming of someone or something.. Just try it, okay?
