I just want to know if any people are singers and never took lessons. Anyone who is an experienced singer, are lessons pretty much required to know anything about singing? If you sing and are any good and never took lessons, how did you teach yourself?

I am a singer and I taught myself to sing. I take voice lessons now from tree different teachers, one for Opera, one for Musical Theater and one for modern music. The only reason you should have a voice teacher is to protect your voice so as not to lose it. But I have gotten paid to sing and not because I took lessons. I could help if you have MSN but my email is m-m.b-k@hotmail.com if you do have MSN if not just email me. I am a professional singer and that is not fro taking lessons but from teaching myself.

You can sing on your own, however I would suggest lessons.

You'll never be able to learn proper technique and a good whole sound without lessons, because you can only hear it from your ears.

If you aren't looking to be a professional and maybe just hit the Karaoke bars, than don't even worry about lessons. Just practice on your own.

I was raised in a musical family. Everyone in my family plays at least 3 instruments. On top of which, my mother is a professional singer, and choir director. So, I've done my research.

I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

If you do choose to train yourself you have to have lots of discipline and actually analyze yourself and have others hear you (that know what they are talking about) and tell you what they think.

Most techniques, if you choose to train yourself, are involved with breathing. Breath with your diaphragm. (your chest shouldn't move, your stomach should). Scales are huge to be able to have a "good" voice you have to have a large range. And being able to read notes and have a good pitch is also something you need. So, have a piano or keyboard readily available so you can use it (I find it's the easiest instrument to tune to).

I would highly recommend lessons if you are seriously considering being a good singers. And you have to remember that most singers have natural ability. If you don't, that limits your opportunities in the field.

Good luck, and I hope I helped!

I've never had lessons in my life. I do sing quite well, though. I am pretty experienced. Anyways, I taught myself through hard practice. I found my range and focused mainly there, and then stepped it up a little to a different song a little out of my range to increase my range. Eventually, my voice stopped being the nasally six-year-old voice it sounded like. Now it's a more mature voice with a large range and a hell lot of soul.

I never had lessons. I sang in the school choir, but outside of that, nothing. I never "taught" myself.. rather singing is something I just always did, ever since I was very little... and still doing it today. Been making a living with my voice for over 20 years.

Some people have an innate talent. If you don't, take some vocal lessons

with a piano. i play with rock bands but it always comes handy to have a nice vocal range.

however, even Christina Aguilera had to hire a vocal trainer.
but to sing, I think you can do it yourself, just have a tuned instrument for reference.
