Lately my dog has been losing hair in patches! We just recently got a puppy and she does not let him get a moments rest. Could the stress from the puppy be causing the hair loss?! Or should I be more concerned?

Should I take him to the vet?!

If your dog is losing hair in patches, I would definitely have the vet look at this. But the answer to your question, is yes, dogs can lose hair from stress. They can also develop a kind of mange from stress as well. If this is the case, your dog will require medication from the vet.

Yes, a common cause for hair loss is stress. Try to keep the puppy away from him/her so he/she can rest for atleast 3 hours through out the day. If the patches quit appearing then you have solved the problem but if there is more popping up you should seek a vet, whithin a week the hair should grow back, if not take him/her to the vet.

Low thyroid among many other things could contribute... that's up to your vet to determine. And, yes, you take the dog to a vet! This is medical condition - understand?

You need to take control of the situation now if your puppy is too much for your older dog.

Take some responsibility here ...the puppy is not the cause of your older dog not getting a moments rest, "you" are the cause because you are allowing it!

Don't blame a puppy who doesn't know any better yet. Pick him up and keep him away. It might look cute and funny to you, but it isn't and obviously your dogs isn't humored by it either.

That is not only unfair to your older dog, it's abusive.

I don't think that the puppy is causing your dog stress at all. Depending on the dog, they could never get enough exercise to lose hair. my dog started losing hair in patches because he was getting older from being a puppy to an adult (2). It can also be the season, winter to spring. I hope I helped you!

Yes! It very well could be stress. It also very well could be totally unrelated. Does she bite at herself, or scratch? If so it could be a "Hot Spot", or an irritated patch of skin. They typically lose their hair in the affected area, but it can easily be cured by a prescription ointment. Yes. I would take her to the vet. Always better to be too concerned, than not concerned enough.

Yes, stress can cause hair loss in dogs, cats, and humans. I wouldn't worry too much. You might just give your vet a call and see what they recommend.
