I've been told that only God can take life, no matter WHAT. So man taking life with consent of some government...is that playing God?

It doesn't matter what they did, they had no right to kill someone...so why do we?

No God gives authority here on earth for people to govern and to give just punishment.
The State indeed does have the right to use the death penalty when necessary in working toward the common good.

TheCatechism of the Catholic Church article 2267 states “Assuming that the guilty party's identity and responsibility have been fully determined, the traditional teaching of the Church does not exclude recourse to the death penalty, if this is the only possible way of effectively defending human lives against the unjust aggressor. "

Many modernist Priests and Bishops are opposing it. I fail to wonder why if the Church has supported it for so many years.

The murderer was playing God when they killed someone. And yes they probably do deserve death, but this does not justify us making that decision, God gets to make that decision.

Killing is only every justified in the defense of others, as not killing someone who was trying to kill someone else would be unjust and possibly cause more lives to be ended.

No, it originates from the Bible: “Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man." (Genesis 9:6, NASB95) God established the principle that if a person dared to kill another who was created in His image, society should not suffer the murderer to live.

Because we are relativistic in our thinking, we confuse murder with justice, thinking that all killing is murder. It is not. Murder is committed by an individual or individuals without any authority or justification; justice is executed by society under the authority given it by the Law.

Using the death penalty is from the old testement. I personally don't believe in it. That is judging someone and carrying out the sentence by man.

Im on the fence about it, i cant bring myself to easily say yeah just kill someone, however i have never been hurt by someone who may have harmed me or my loved ones, so maybe i would change my mind if in those shoes. Also im not convinced that its not right either, maybe it is just, i dont know, so i dont know either.
