I am taking my fiance's name and I know the basics like driver lic. but what about my birth certificate? I know that sounds stupid but I am really curious. Thanks!

Your birth certificate will stay the same since that was your name at birth. Your marriage license is the legal document you need to show that your last name has changed. It's a good idea to make some copies of your marriage license and bring them, as well as the original and your birth certificate with you when you go to change your name on accounts. Lots of places will want to see and/or have a copy before they'll change your name on accounts.

Congratulations on your wedding!

Documents To Change After Marriage

When you go to get your marriage licence, the person you
will talk to will inform you about taking your husbands name.
Now you can assume it, but it's really not legeal. They give
you a form to fill out after your married and for me, where
I live it only costs $22.00 to change your name to your
husbands. All your documents need to be changed, but
don't worry, it does not have to be done over night.
Your birth certificate is the only thing that stays the same.
Your health card, drivers licence, bank records, cheques,
credit cards and your pay cheque, and anything else you
can think of can be changed.

Birth certificate doesn't change, but you need to notify your bank, credit/store card providers, social security, electoral roll, drivers license, motor registration, insurance companies - life, contents, building, health, motor, your doctor's office, superannuation company/ies and your employer.
There may be more. Every time you get mail in, notify them of the change of name. Then you will cover most situations.

Driver's license and Social Security Card. Also, if you're a college student, your student I.D. Your birth certificate, leave as is. And if you work for an agency that issues identifications (such as police or military I.D.s), get one in your new name.

YOu dont have to do anything with your birth certificate. Just social security, driver's license, credit cards, banks, and any other accounts you may have.

Check with the state you live in. They might sell a name change kit.

You will need to change your social security card, driver's license, passport, bank information and all your bills.

I plan on buying a kit that has all the appropriate forms. Here's a link to the one I think I will buy. Good Luck!
