I know of two episodes of the Dog Whisperer that address those problems, but I can't tell you which exact two. I know that in the one where they trim the nails, they have the dog lie down on its side and then put a towel over the dog's head. Then take the paw firmly in your grasp and trim away. Make sure you have stiptic powder available so you can put on the nail if it starts to bleed. Or you can take the dog for a run on the concrete, this will naturally wear down the nails.

With the aggression towards men, you should have a man you trust with the dog come to the door. Take the dog outside the house on a leash and greet the man. Don't give the dog any attention if he's growling or barking. Have the man hold treats in his hand and wait for the dog to approach him. When your dog approaches him on his own, give the dog a treat. My dog reacts the best to people who don't pay him any attention and actually turn their backs to him when he's barking. Do not show any fear or signs of backing down, or else the dog has won. Once your dog can greet a man outside the house, at the door, then gradually move inside the house, doing the same kinds of things. Have the man hold the treats and give the dog the treats when he acts appropriately.

Start of by touching his feet and nails every day while giving lots of praise. No trimming at all at this point - you want to get him comfortable with having his feet touched. Dremels are an excellent way to take care of dogs' nails. It is less likely to result in a bleeding quick and gives finer control over how much nail is removed and in what shape. If possible, have someone hold his head while you are clipping his nails. Only do a couple at a time and give him lots and lots of praise then reward with a treat.

Take the dog to the vet or a groomer to get his nails trimmed they are good at it and don't usually charge over $5 to do it. With the man issue, I think that because it is only in your house the dog is just being protective.

Get help. Have someone feed him treats or stroke him gently while getting his nails trimmed. Soon he will come to associate nail trimming with something pleasurable.
As for the aggression, he is just being a good guard dog and protecting his territory. You should be happy that he is willing to protect you and your property, however, if he is this way even after you have introduced a male to him then you will need to work on obedience training with him and teach him when it is not okay to act aggressive.

We had a dog once that hated getting his toes clipped so we just filed them with a finger nail file. They didn't seem to mind it so bad.

Aggression towards men. Well the best thing you could do here is put a air tight cookie jar filled with his favorite treats by your front door with a reminder note to everyone who comes knocking to take a treat and give it to your dog. This way he associates the newcomer's as bearing gifts for him and then he may not be as aggressive or none at all towards them.

Try distracting the dog with a special treat, like peanut butter, or get professinal help.

For the men thing, try this..:

Have your dog watch men on TV, or at the park, or even at home. Whenever your dog sees a man, give him a treat. Hopefully with time he will associate men with pleasure.

It's probably jsut a terriorial thing though.. Try asserting that you are top dog and it's your duty to decide who comes and goes.

Hi, dogs have vains in their nails and are VERY sensitive to that area. Just hold him down really firm and dont scare him just put him on his back and rub his belly. Keep him calm and talk to him when your clipping his nails. As for the men thing there is not much you can really do.

it can be helpful to take your dog to a fenced in lacrosse or hockey court throw a ball for him get him running so his nails really rub on the cement....that will help to naturally keep his nails trimmed after they are cut so u dont have to cut them so often...but as far as trimming them goes u can wait till he falls asleep and quickly do as many nails as possible or u can try distracting him with treats.......or if all else fails put peanutbutter in his mouth....good luck!!!

A lot of dogs don't like their nails trimmed by their owners. All of my dogs I have owned and my present one, I take to the vet and she gets a local and they trim her nails, brush her teeth and clean her ears. It cost me $86.00, but it is worth it for the safety of my dog.
If you force him/her and you should slip and cut too deep and they bleed if not helped right away the animal can bleed to death. They don't have a lot of blood like we do.
Most groomer's are not licensed to cut dogs nails.

Take the poor thing to a vet...It is truly worth it...

use a professional for the nail trimming as they need to recieve nail care from a very early age to learn to accept it. as for the aggression time to take him to a professional as you have a serious issue that needs to have been taken care of yesterday.
