so you can somehow explain adam and eve and noah's ark, or so you think...but how in the world could someone survive in a whale's belly? Do you know basic anatomy?

Is anything too hard for God?

Actually I read a case of a whaler in the 1800's who fell overboard and was swallowed by a sperm whale. When the whale was caught his belly was cut open and they were able to revive the sailor, who had been in the belly, if I recall correctly, at least 18 hours.

Personally, I think Jonah probably died, and God raised him from the dead.

It wasn't a whale. The bible said Jonah was swallowed by "a great fish."

Fish are fish. Whales are mammals.

And no, a human couldn't survive in the belly of either. It is just a story, taken as fact by fundies who suspend the use of common sense, logic, and reason, so they can believe in an imaginary being that goes around suspending the laws of physics on whims and fits of jealous rage.

Despite what someone else posted, nobody has ever been swallowed by a whale or a fish and lived to tell about it, unless, perhaps, they were using a scuba tank and an acid-resistant dry-suit. Anybody who says differently should give the source of their info. Careful scrutinization will no doubt reveal that their story is an urban legend, just like Jonah's.

The book of Jonah is transparent fiction. The author of the book would be amused to think that nearly 3000 years later, some people would think it really happened.

Frankly, though, i find the story of Jonah far, far, far less implausible than the Genesis stories. Adam and Eve has a talking snake and a genetically viable progeny from 2 individuals. The flood story obliterates just about every law of nature yet discovered. A whale's (or fish's) digestive system is tame by comparison.

By the Grace of God.

The Jonah & whale story even Jesus brought up & said He would be in the heart of the earth, like Jonah was in the whales belly. So, God made a bad situation work out for the good.

Or, maby God planned the whole thing to teach the power of repentence before God?

He survived because it's a children's tale. It never happened and the whales all want you to stop talking about it.

How about formulating a question that has some sort of linear plane to it instead of just typing what I can only assume is verbal assault on the human psyche.

Jonah, like most Biblical legends, is emblematic of the course of the sun through the constellations of scorpio, sagitarius and capricorn. It was not included because people actually thought that Jonah survived the ordeal - it was included because it taught an important esoteric lesson.

The story is fiction, as are Adam and Eve and Noah's ark.

I do not take that literraly, God is powerful and he can do anything. Just like witchcraft or vodoo exist, The power of God is much greater. For instance, In vodoo a person can dissapear and take anyform he wants to. He can travel anywhere; they can even take a form in which you would think of. If people do anything with magic, what about the super power of GOD. The power of God is greater, this example i give you is a fact.
