I don't like when you ask for an opinion and you get tons of cut and paste verses. I mean what does it mean to you. I don't personally believe that the Bible is to be taken word for word. Their is some message in their sure but you have to take historical and sociological events into account. What was the reason for it being said. And a lot of it was just a simple way to explain things in a way that the people at the time could understand. Why a child ask you where do babies come from to you tell him the truth or something that they can comprehend.

On the flip side, I love some of the humor and on some questions it is appropriate and I will join in. But on some questions where it is apparent that some one is in pain do not give little jabs.

But these are not the things I hate. What I hate are people that bash other religions and lifestyles. There is no need for that at all.

Christian's are bigots on the subject of tolerance.

Christians who are tolerant of others are not living up to what it means to be a True Christian

The word "tolerance" never even appeared in scripture until the 60's and 70's when the NEW American Standard and NEW International versions of the bible came into being. In the King James and original American Standard versions the word used was "forbearance" which itself could imply something altogether different. It should also be noted that at the time the NEW versions of the bible were printed, Marxist liberals were tenaciously teaching tolerance as the NEW measure of morality in America from kindergarten through seminary.

The cross is a lot of things to a lot of people but it IS NOT a lesson in tolerance. If God were tolerant of sin He never would have sacrificed His "Only Begotten" to suffer and die so horrendously for the likes of you and me.

Amen, brother. I am also considering, actually knowing that im going to become a pastor. I think that there are some people, both Christian and Atheist that have the bashing coming, mostly cause they bash in the first place. If the Christian is trying to convert the atheist they should try no more than 3 times, the bible says that we should not waste our time on those who wont listen. And to the atheists out there, i like most of you, i choose to surround myself with people of various cultures to expand my viewpoint of the world, just try to have tolerance with those of us who are stubborn and we can all get along fine.

Well I don't hate no one. Despite how annoying and arrogant bashers maybe. Not just atheists and not just Christians both. Have you noticed all the other religions never bash each other? Not even Scientology. So why do atheists who have no belief and Christians who have a belief get so angry and bash each other? It seems arrogant and childish on both ends.

However, is this really a place to even be stating pet peeves? What I would like to see, though I know it will never happen is r&s become a place where we can come and freely ask legitimate questions of all religions and non-believers with out getting my head bit off, and share my knowledge with others. Isn't that what this was really designed for?

Well, when you ask people to state their pet peeves about Christians or atheists, don't be surprised if some of the responses seem like "bashing."

I don't hate bashers...I do not like it when people are rude and disrespectful to the opinions of others, but not everyone on this forum is willing to see that there may be other valid perspectives other than their own. Oh well. Live and learn.

P.S. blessings on your willingness to hear God's call.

But there's no rule in the Atheist's Handbook that says they have to love everyone and turn their cheeks and give their coats and things to Christians. So when atheists "bash", they're being normal people. But when Christians do it they're being hypocrites and making other Christians look bad.

You are a hypocrite.
How can you worship and praise God if you cannot "prove" the existence of Him?
A Christian must believe that He is, and He is a rewarder for those who diligently seek Him. (Heb 11:6) If you want proof, seek Him and He WILL make His presence known.
If you need physical proof, priesthood is not your cup of tea. You are more of an atheist with that attitude.
