For immediate relief stretch it even though it hurts. Run warm water over your leg and foot and gently massage it. You need potassium in your diet. Eat bananas, kiwi, grapefruit etc. Go to WalMart and buy an OTC bottle of potassium.. You should also begin taking a good potent multi-vitamin since you are probably deficient in other nutrients as well. Eat more fruit and veggies.

Okay I have read all the other solutions and I will give you the accurate one. They are all for the most part right. If you are getting cramps and you are not exercising or working out alot. Then it is probably caused by lack of Calcium or Potassium. OTC vitamins and the traditional bananas and fruits should all take care of this. If you are exercising and working out...that can be a sign of low sodium. The best quick remedy is to drink something salty. Pickle juice is the quickest way to recovery. To prevent this drink Gatorade or another sports drink to replenish the sodium in your body. If you still get a Charley horse....then the best thing is to get on your feet and walk it off.

I get Charlie Horses all the time. I talked to my dr. about it and she told me the reason I got them so much was because I didn't have enough calcium in my diet. So I started consuming more calcium and the cramps got less frequent. When the do come on I stand up and stretch out my leg or I have my husband rub my calf. He has stronger hands then I do, so he is able to massage the cramp out.

I get them all the time and this is my quick fix that always works. As soon as one starts, I pull my foot up towards my knee (instead of pointing my toes like ballet). The charly horse immediately goes away. Give it a try.

Well, they can be caused by too much salt in your diet...not enough iron or potassium. A multi-vitamin might help.

I always just walk it out, it does hurt, but it gets better. Stretch more when you exercise too. It should help prevent them.
