Benzoyl Peroxide is a chemical bleaching agent that is commonly used in acne medications in the U.S. It is highly flammable and should be handled with care. It has been shown to induce cancer when used in high concentrations. Most OTC acne treatments use 2.5%-10% concentrations. If past acne treatments have caused burning, itching, peeling, or irritation it is most likely due to benzoyl peroxide. Most products we reviewed containing benzoyl peroxide rated poorly due to extreme irritation. The highest rated acne products reviewed used herbal alternatives to this harsh chemical. Juicy Girl,

You are so asking for trouble and potentially a really bad case of bad skin. Do you really want that heading into the summer (a.k.a. flirting season)?

The truth is you will NOT know what will happen until you actually apply it to your skin...which means that the product will be on your skin before you know if it will damage it.

Some acne products do have benzol peroxide, but it's in a formula percentage that is safe for the skin and will not cause long term damage.

If you are looking at dealing with your acne for good, then see your dermatologist.

Your dermatologist can prescribe Tretinoin/Tretinoid. This is a topical derivative of Vitamin A and it's effective at diminishing and erasing dark spots. It’s the best product against acne. Apply is at night and it will control the growth of new acne.

Your face will learn how to tolerate the bp in about a month or so, well I think depends on what brand you use as well. I've taken benzaclyn or something like that and used it for about a year, my face and drying and peeling like crazy. I'm using a different brand containing the same amount of bp, 5%, but my dermatalogist claims that it isn't as drying even though they have the same amount. The second brand I used was drying at first but soon my skin tolerated it within two weeks to a month. I actually wouldn't reccomend putting anything on containing bp in the morning since your skin is sensitive to the sun and when you move your face the dried up medication becomes all noticable and chalky.

Something with bezoyl peroxide would be good for acne, but that much would be very bad. I would NOT try it, but something that has benzoyl perozide IN it would be perfectly fine.

It will eventually stop, but when that happens depends on your own skin. I used benzoyl peroxide daily for 2 months and it stopped about two weeks before I stopped using it daily... but it's worth it

wow!

Lot's of pharmacists on here!!!!

basically put, it is a just drying agent for skin. Most acne/spot products contains a mixture of this for a reason. Your face would be too dry, it will go anyway....just shower regularly paying particular attention to cleaning your face and drying it with a clean towel before apply acne cream.
