I just burned a DVD movie on a Sony DVD-R (I don't need to hear it that it's illegal and etc...). So I burned the movie and wanted to play it on my dvd player, and a third of the way through it, it starts to skip as if the DVD was scratched (but it wasn't). Do you think that I should lower my burn speed? my DVD burn speed is at 16x right now. Should I lower it to 4x or 8x maybe? also, it is safe to make labels for my DVD movies and be able to play them, or will it have an effect on it? thanks,

Labels on a dvd will make them slow down in the dvd-player. Since a dvd-rom drive on your computer spins quite quickly, you won't notice any slow down when played on a PC. However, dvd players themselves don't spin all that rapidly at all (most do around 4x only), and a label makes the dvd heavier therefore harder to spin, which then requires more effort, and the max speed will be slower. At a certain point, the dvd could skip because of this.

My advice: Many computer and office stores sell film labels designed for dvd's that are lightweight and guaranteed not to reduce performance. They are more expensive than the regular cd/dvd labels, but very useful if you want to make awesome looking dvds with labels without that nasty performance issues.

Hope that helps.

Can Your DVD Player Read Burned DVD's?

I have had problems playing burned dvd movies on my dvd player. It doesn't seem to like them. Funny thing is, my el-cheapo dvd player that I have hooked up to the bedroom tv doesn't have that problem! If your dvd player is a few years old, it might not be totally compatible with burnt dvd's.
