I would do Beatrix Potter. It is stories about rabbits and their freinds. It would go well with a tea party. You can find things on the web with pics that will give you the ideas you need for colors. It would be good for a girl or boy. Pick some of the colors from one of the stories and go from there. You should be able to find pics to download and you can cut them out and maybe even laminate them and arragne them on your table. Use a light colored table cloth. You could use Carrots with the green tops along with baby items as a center piece. You can probley even get a cake made with a pic with one of the charaters on it. Roll your napkins up and tie them with different colored ribbon that match the stories. Your cups and plates and napkins don't have to have pics on them just look for similar solid colors and buy 2 or 3 different colors. When setting the table stack the plates so there is a different color everytime someone picks up a plate. Same with cups and napkins. If you can get fresh flowers in yellows you can put them in little vases of various sizes all over the room. Walmart sells cheap flower. If you are sitting in the livingroom for your shower you could lay little stuff rabbits all over. You could ask the guest that are coming to bring a book for the child. (Along with their gift) Have them sign who the book is from and the date of the shower. Put a big basket with a big bow on it next to the door. As guest come in have them place their book in the basket. Have them put their gifts at another table. Place it next to the door they will be coming in. Try to keep the books a secret from the mother to be. After she opens all her gifts then present the basket it to her and tell her everyone signed their. Watch her cry! For food make it simple. If you are really having tea than have several choices. Have lemon cut and placed on the table on dainty plates. Make sure you have sugar and sweetner. Have little sandwiches that are cut into triangles. Stand them up on a plate. You could make them with cheese spread, ham or chicken salad or egg salad. Make curly carrots by slicing the long ways with a carrot peeler. and have dip. Put out cherry tomatoes, olives and cheese and crackers. If you haven't set a time for the shower yet, try to make it after lunch time and before dinner time. 2:30 is good. That way you don't have to serve lunch or dinner. For you gifts for your guest. Buy little tiny baskets. About the size or a bar of soap. Fill it with wrapped candy. Wrap it with netting and tie a ribbon top. You can find the basket and netting and ribbon at the craft stores. Keep track of what gifts the mother gets. Make a list of what she got and from whom. Buy thank you cards and have them in a little gift bag. Before the mother leaves give her the gift bag with the list. This will save her from having to keep track and buy cards. I Have done several showers and these are some of the most popular things I ahve done. Have fun and good luck!!

Finger sandwiches, or tea sandwiches, are great food for tea parties. You can generally make up the filling the night before and just assemble the day of. If you freeze the bread a bit, it makes it easier to assemble (just make sure it will have an hour or two to thaw before the party begins).
Google "tea sandwiches." There are great recipes available online.

If you have a Wal Mart near you, check the $1 or $2/yard tables to see if you can find large amounts of fabric to use as table clothes. This will be cheaper, typically, than buying them.

Have you ever seen a "diaper cake?" They can be done beautifully and make a nice decoration. It's also a good gift for the parents-to-be. Here's a link:

I don't know if you can tell, but the cake rounds are made of diapers. Be as creative as you want from there.

You can reuse baby food jars to hold tea-lite candles. With the labels removed, you can use pretty ribbon and small silk flowers to decorate.

Tea bags make nice keepsakes for the guests. You can easily create the "tags" using your computer and nice paper. Just glue a new one over the existing one. Something as simple as the Monogram and date of the shower can be nice.

Chocolate brown with any pastel is very trendy right now. You can do brown and pink or blue if they know the sex of the baby. Otherwise, brown with pale yellow or green would be quite nice.

Make nice labels for the food. Guests like to know sometimes what's in the sandwiches or pastas or salads (whatever) before they take them.

Supply a scrapbook or journal and encourage guests to write down words of encouragement or advice for the new parents.
This is especially nice for first time parents.

Do you plan to play games?

Fill a baby bathtub or tray or something with baby related items. Let the guests view it for some set period of time. Then take it away. Ask guests to recall as many items as possible. Use specifics (brands, colors) as tie breakers.

Asks guests to guess the price of baby items. Whoever comes closest to the total of the actual cost for all the items wins.

I generally try to stay away from games the give an advantage to those that know the to-be-parents most.

If you want to use fresh flowers, Trader Joe's has some wonderful, inexpensive options.

Fresh fruit kabobs are always nice.

If you opt to use "real" dishes you can rent them if need be.

Best wishes. Hope it's very nice.

That sounds quality, however perhaps as a substitute of the hen wings you would do whatever a little bit extra conventional for a tea get together. Maybe a hen salad, egg salad and tuna salad finger sandwiches. Get the biggest slices of bread you'll uncover. and reduce them into four portions at the diagonal, so they're little triangles. That manner if they prefer a couple of style of sandwich they may be able to have two or three and nonetheless no longer appear like a pig and be filled!

Why not make it a "Mad Hatter Tea Party"

It would be fun to not have to match anything, the cups and saucers could have sayings on them like (Welcome little one, Get here quick, mom's little bun in the oven, etc)

The center pieces could be little top hats with toy baby bottles, paper diapers with pins, and small bows attached to the hat band with each hat named for a boy or a girl

The food could be little finger sandwiches, mini breads, mini cupcakes, baby cookies
a sparkling punch

Table cloths made out of crazy material and paper scallop placmats with bottom corners folded up and held by baby pins to look like diapers

Games could be take a letter from each name on a hat and make a new baby name (something unique)

On back of placemats could be a secret code and they have to look for it (every placemat has a word but one would be blank and that is the winner)

In one corner of the room have a bunch of filled helium balloons with slips of paper in them. At the end, let the guests pick up one and pop it. This little surprise will be what they get to take home as their individual favor from this creative baby shower.

Use small round tables. Cover in white tablecloths and a layer of tulle in both pink and blue. Collect teapots and cup and saucer sets (which can be then given as favors). You can find lovely sets at your local antique store, and are usually quite reasonable. Use silver sugar bowls, creamers and silverware. For the table centerpieces, create several small bouquets using pink roses, blue carnations, and ferns. Make them flat on one side for laying on table. Tie stems together with pink and blue silk ribbon and mist lightly. Place in refrigerator until ready to decorate table. Fold napkins and tie with a pink or blue silk ribbon and tuck a white rose into each.

Make up a menu and print it out on pretty paper and don’t forget to keep it authentic, no paper plates or cups! Enlist the help of friends and have them each bring a delectable selection of cookies. If you really want to be authentic, visit one of the many online suppliers of British foods, and add genuine English clotted cream to have with your scones. A typical selection would be cucumber, smoked salmon, egg salad and watercress finger sandwiches; followed by scones with jam & cream, with chocolate digestives, custard creams and shortbread, all available online. Cakes are usually of the ‘sponge’ variety (similar to pound cake), cut in half and filled with strawberries and cream. Make sure to keep refilling those teapots with boiling water and allow a few minutes for the tea to brew
