If he is extremely timid around, (unless you are initmidating in other ways). You can see he attempts to make contact with you and be with you, but easily gives up because he is timid. If you really want to know, spend time with him, as you get to know each other more, he will become less shy around you, and open up more.

Does he keep looking at you and turning away when you see him?. Does he frequently hang around where you are even though he doesn't actually try to talk with you?. Does he keep comming to you to ask some kind of lame question like "did you hear what the homework assignment was" even though there were other people closer to him that would have known? If he does talk to you, does he get all nervous and flustered?

If he is the shy type he will most likely chat up a friend of yours and avoid you a little more. when he is around you it reminds you of kindergarten? then he likes you.
