Or they at least have a comprehension problem I mean it seriously IRKS me that they still claim the existence of god (and worse the "son of god" aka jesus) is supported by scriputre.
The gospels were all written long after the death of jesus and also after the epistles f paul which mention almost nothing of the facts of jesus life. All were then copied and recopied by falliable scrives who in any case had their own agendas. When the gospels were written man years after jesus death, nobody knew where he was born. Just an OT prophecy that had led jews to expect that the messiah would be born in bethlehem. John's gospel remarks that his followers were surprised that he was NOT born in bethlehem: some said "this is the christ and others said shall he cometh out of gailee.? hath not the scripture said that christ come out of the seed of david and out of the town of bethlehem where david was?"
Matthew and luke handle the problem differently, by deciding that jesus MUST have been born..

in bethlem after all. but they get him there by different routes. matthew has mary and joseph in bethlehem all along, moving to nazareth long after the birth of jesus on their return from egypt where the fled from herod and the massacre of the innocents. Luke however says that mary and joseph lived in nazareth before jesus was borth. etc etc you all should know how they got them to bethlem at the moment in order to fulfil prohecy....

furthermore like screws up his dating by mentioning events that historians are capable of checking. there was a census under governer quirinius-a local census not one decreed by augustus for the empire as a whole-but it happened late in AD 6 LONG after herod's death.

It irks ME how people who attack the Bible obviously don't read it. The first sentence of the Bible is, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." And it irks you that people "still" claim that the existence of God is supported by scripture???
What you said about Matthew was wrong. He didn't make any reference to where Mary and Joseph were before the birth. Saying that it's some kind of contradiction because he doesn't address the subject is grasping for straws.
John wrote his gospel after the other three were already in circulation. The original readers of the gospel knew full well where Jesus had been born, and John starts the narrative of Jesus at the start of his ministry, in fact he starts at the time when most likely he, as a disciple of John the Baptist, first saw Jesus. That gospel differs from the others, in that it is written as a first hand account, whereas the others give every indication of being written by the second generation of disciples, who had heard the story told many times by the original disciples. As you mention, he implies that during Jesus' ministry, the masses only knew that he was from Nazareth, and didn't know he was born in Bethlehem.
It's true that John wrote his gospel long after the events took place, most likely when on the isle of Patmos, as many as 70 years after the events. Yet, however many generations you would like to call 70 years, it's still an eyewitness account. His gospel and Revelation were transmitted to "the brothers" by Polycarp, John's apprentice, who later became the bishop of Smyrna (and who also most likely added the last three verses to the gospel).

Long after the death of Jesus = 70 years = 2-3 generations.
EDIT:
To the guy below me, I said 2-3 generations based on the average life span at the time: 30 years. I don't know if that includes Romans or not. Some people would live longer, some shorter. 2-3 generations would be 60-90 years, on average. You could be right saying 4 generations as well.

Paul didn't know much about Jesus' life, because Jesus had gone back to the Father by that time. Paul (Saul) met Jesus on the road. This was enough to convince him that Jesus was real and Paul quit persecuting Christians because of this, and became one. The gospels were written maybe 30-50 years after the time of Jesus. This was soon enough that if there had been errors, that someone would have complained about them. Also, why would most of the apostles go to the grave as martyrs for something that was a lie? Why would they go from cowards to zealots if Jesus didn't rise from death... what was there to gain?
These are reasons I study the scriptures and believe them. Besides, Is the location of Jesus' birth place and time as important as His resurrection? I think not.

The fact that the New Testament was written after the death of Christ isn't an issue. The histories of George Washington were all written after his death, as are most biographies. Give it a rest.
I'm not a Christian, but your arguement is not really a sensible one. If you wish to disprove scripture, you need to do it based on something more than this.
We have nothing of any ancient historical figure that wasn't copied by scribes; including Nero, Plato, Socrates and others. It takes a more critical examinatin than that to dispute a specific historical figure.

All what you say, um, it's in the Bible. You are confused about it, and it's in the Bible. Jesus was born in bethlehem, many did not know that, they kept calling him Jesus of Nazareth because he wasn't making it ready for everyones knowledge , you know the Herod thing?

You probably won't read down this far.
Subjective is an endearing quality.Comprehension comes from study.
You haven't even begun to ask a question, merely opinion-ate about a subject you have little or no wisdom on or about.

Most Christians don't really read the bible. And most of the ones that do don't understand it. This is one area where the christian need to follow the Muslim. They read the Koran and they pray for hours everyday. Lucky to get a christian to pray on Sunday.
