mental retardation ect, serve less of a purpose on this earth, than a person we might deem "normal"?

If you think they do serve less of a purpose explain why.

The reason why I ask is because there are alot of people on here who say things like "if there's a God why did he create people with birth defects?" And I've always thought, are those people less valuable than me?

Every body is born to praise and worship God. Each of us according to our ability. Jesus actually used people who where dumb, lame, blind, deaf, and mute among others to bring glory to God. Jesus cares very much for the poor. Not just the poor but also the poor in spirit. Someone can be rich beyond measure and still be poor in spirit. If they don't have Christ they are poor spiritually. I think that we as a society have made it convenient to think they serve less. In Christs eyes they are equal to anyone else.

People with mental or physical deficiencies most certainly have a purpose for living

I don't believe that "God creates people with disabilities". I believe that the chance of getting a physical or mental disability is basically a role of the dice. It's like losing a genetic lottery.

However, this doesn't mean that those people are useless and should be looked down upon.

My physical disability (Spina Bifida) hasn't made me less of a person. It's just taught me that I have to do some things differently from able bodied people in order to achieve the same effect or goal.

Absolutely not!

I believe that our purpose here is to touch people's lives, bring a bit of joy to someone who hasn't felt any in a while, love the people around us. Sometime's us "normal" people have a harder time doing that than the others you mentioned.

A couple examples...

My sister has worked as a waitress and lived in a trailer her whole life. She has always struggled to pay her bills. Yet she is the most generous person I know. Always willing to open her door and help out anyone who needs it.

Consider also someone with Down's Syndrome...they can love like no "normal" person I have ever known. They love unconditionally, whole-heartedly, because they don't understand what it means not to.

if anything, they serve a purpose that we don't recognize enough! God didn't make them that way, but He can use anything as a lesson:

the poor - you can learn to be grateful, compassionate, wise (with your money), kinder (don't be bothered by rude people on the street) and less selfish

birth defects - God can use anyone, anyone can get saved, make misfortune into opportunity, be compassionate, be fair

menatl..... - God loves everyone, be grateful, be kind, looking out for the feelings of others

i think everyone on this earth has a purpose that God put them on earth to do, its just a matter if they find that purpose or not. Those people, they might just need a bit more care, but can help in a similar way. Look a Helen Keller for instance, she made a difference by showing ppl, just of what u have asked, that "special" ppl can do whatever they wish to acheive.

I think they serve as much of a purpose as any of us. Whether we have physical signs of birth defects or not...we are all born defective. I think these people often remind us of who we truly are on the inside. Sometimes this realization causes to reach out to them and sometimes it causes us to recoil.

But their value as human beings is in no way diminished. Their souls are also made in the image of God.

I think you should be careful what you say about the handicapped!! those are GOD's ANGELS and to judge them is a sin worthy of death. Some of the things that you people say on here about the blacks, and the others are sad.

John: Chapter 8, verse 34:
Verily, Verily I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
John Chapter 8 verse 42:
Ye are of your father, the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.
he was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own:; for he is a liar and the father of it.

No they do not serve less of a purpose. For some, uniting their sufferings with the sufferings of Christ for the sins of the world means they serve more of a purpose than most.

There is no dought a Almighty God..
God made people the way they are, for a reason. Say for instance people with birth defects and so on. In the begging God himself gave you choice. And he kept it black and white, you either serve me or the devil, (simple) along with serving there's faith, now our God in heaven is also an amazing healer. You need to pray and have faith that he will heal this person with this certain defect, now it is rare that he does miracles like this, simply because, its his way of testing you. You either say "huh y God y my son with this" instead of saying that, you should thank him for the fact that he is even alive, the fact that you could even produce a human. see God does everything a for a reason. and he tests your faith like that, just put your trust in God and everything will be OKAY!

A billion times,no.

I convinced a mother 12 years ago to avoid the option of aborting her child.....I just visited her tonight..she was born with a health challenge(mild non-degenerative,cerebral palsey)...she is emotionally delayed...but she is both physically and inwardly a beautiful little girl....She is loved by so many...and is actually gifted in some ways(her memorization skills are astounding)....but aside from her attributes she is a creation of God....I can not imagine life without her....and she is not even my child.
