It seems to me that drivers and walkers are half asleep while commuting to work and often put cyclists at risk.

What do you think?

No, I don't think it's fair. But survival dictates you be more vigilant.

Drivers don't, they get a dent. You don't, you get DEAD. Doesn't matter who is right. You're still DEAD.

This question is moot.

Let's say walkers and drivers have to bare ALL of the responsibility for being alert. But, it takes only one driver who wasn't alert for a brief moment to get you and you will be dead. You can make him liable for your injury but you are still dead.

Bottom line is, we all have to be alert and protect ourselves. Making someone responsible doesn't gurantee your safety, and you really cannot make someone be responsible. You can make him liable, but not responsble.

Keep up with traffic.

If someone were driving a car as slowly as you ride your bike, they would be cited for obstructing traffic.
Not to mention get their butt kicked by some other irate driver.

Who has the most to lose, should be the most alert.
