I am so afraid of staying home? I am 14 and I don't know why I am afraid to stay home alone. I always think that someone is in the house when I am alone. Just today I got so scared I had to call my dad and cry because when I was hiding in the closet I heard loud footsteps coming up the stairs and then I heard a closet close. But I think I was just halicinating. Now I don't know what to do!! I am so afraid. Do you think I should ask my dad to drop me off at my aunts house to stay with her or not?? Ideas and help please??!!

it sounds like a phobia, you should consult a doctor about this. and also it is receommend you tell your dad to take you to your aunt house until you can see a doctor. This can be treatable.

I think you are definitely going through a mental crisis. I used to be terribly afraid every night when the sun went down. Even though my boyfriend was in the house I was terrified of an intruder coming in the house. I am schizophrenic but I no longer have this problem. I take Abilify and it really took away all the fear. Now I'm not afraid to be alone at night at all. The medication took away all the symptoms of schizophrenia and today I live a very normal life, although there is no cure.
I think you should spend some time with your aunt and let your father know about your fear. Perhaps you need to be on some type of medication. There is no reason to keep on suffering. Something should be done about the problem. I would start out with counseling. It is not normal to be so afraid. Good Luck!

it's not unusual for someone your age to be scared or have a phobia that may seem a little unreasonable to others. This could be a result of just growing up or something more serious like abandonment issues or paranoia. Ideally, you should discuss this with a counselor or psychologist/psychiatrist. That's the only way that you're going to get at the root of your fears. Until then, anything else you do is just like putting a bandaid on the wound. But that's always easier said than done.
As far as distractions, when I was younger, I tried to spend time with people you trust, family, friends, and in my case siblings (which you may not have). Nowadays, you have things like webcams that allow you to talk to others, which might help you feel more comforted because it's like that person is there. Listen to your favorite music, watch funny or uplifting TV shows, keep a lot of lights on. Basically distract yourself. But again, this is just a distraction and won't solve the problem.
And even if you can't talk to a professional, it's always a good idea to even talk to friends, family about your fears. They might be able to relate, give you advice about what worked for them and comfort you.
Good luck.

Yeah...I think you should go stay with you aunt if you are really that scared...or you can call up a friend and talk on the phone until someone comes home...or you can try to sleep.
Its perfectly normal to be afraid of being alone. I know adults that still can't live by themselves.

Do you watch scary movies? This could be the problem, that and freaking yourself out. Its all in your head...unless of course everyone in your family is scared to stay home alone? Call a friend or someone and stay on the phone that way your not alone in a sense.

I used to get like that, dont worry, its just our imagination. I'm 14 too, and what i do when i have to stay home, is i try to stay calm, i have my parents buy me popcorn, and i grab the phone, the remote and sit in my livingroom with all the lights on, and the doors locked. If you realy truely think that that wont work for you, talk to your parents and tell them you arent comfortable with staying home alone quite yet. In the mean time, if your parents are litterally leaving for only 15-20 minutes, practice. Do what i do. I promise, you will grow out of it. It's all in your imagination :] I hope that helps!

First you have to chill out.
Just lock the doors, turn alot of lights on (that helps me)
Tell your dad that your nervous about staying home alone and see what he suggests.
It's good your aware of what goes on around you though.
If you hear a sound think first what are the odds a tree limb against a window or the TV creaking after it was just turned off.
Seirously there are lots of sounds that are nothing.
Good luck and
Peace Out*

it happens to me alot. I'm very afraid of being home alone. just call a friend over or have the TV on and lights on make it so someone is home and it will seem more relaxing. if you have an alarm system make sure your parents set it. make it so someone is home. but if you hear footsteps don't be afraid to call the police they will check it out for you. make yourself as comfortable and feeling safe as possible. and yes also don't watch any horror or murder/killing movies or TV shows even if i watch cops by myself i get really nervous. stay out of the basement distract yourself from noises also blame noises on things around you like door slamming the dog hit it. that makes me way more comfortable and also think reasonable if you hear a noise don't jump to conclusions there usually noises around the house. also if there seems to be a noise like foot steps you would obviously hear a crash of a window and your alarm system squealing. yes and most importantly talk to your parents they will understand ask them to have permission to go to friends houses or have a friend over. you also have to get over this fear because later you will be alone in alot of times.

WELL THIS IS COMMON IN A HOUSEHOLD WHERE NOISE IS ALWAYS GOING ON AND ECHOS JUST STAY IN THE HOME. BUT YOU DONT HAVE TO BE AFRAID OF ANYTHING THAT IS NOT ALIVE!!! DEAD PEOPLE, GHOST OR SOUNDS CANT DO ANYTHING TO YOU. NOW IF YOU DONT FEEL COMFORTABLE STAY WITH YOUR AUNT, EXPLAIN TO YOUR DAD WHATS GOING ON.
