Poor posture, compression fractures of the vertebrae, osteoporosis, aging.
What you do to prevent or treat it depends on the cause. See your doctor if you have the problem, or if it runs in your family.

It's a postural problem. Our bodies adapt to positions that we are in for long periods of time. Most of the stuff we do is in front of us, like type on the computer, or eat or drive, and as a result the muscle on the front side of the body become tight. Meanwhile since we rarely do anything behind us the muscle on our back sides get weak. Over the years this condition just snowballs until they end up looking like you describe. Also some might have osteoporosis ( yes men get that too) which causes major changes in the spine.

Well I don't know your situation but rounded shoulders are often caused by poor posture with can be secondary to pain and pressure in head neck....it can also be primary and cause the pain. Try to hold your shoulders straight back when you sit, stand, walk until it becomes habit. It you have pain see a doctor.

One cause is poor muscle tone in the upper back.
Certain weight training exercises, such as rowing and lifting that strengthens the muscles that pull the shoulders back can help restore better posture.

Sitting or standing hunched over and not holding your shoulders back properly causes this. You can prevent
it by holding your shoulders back and standing up straight.
