We have a 1977 Holidaire trailer, and have found that the left turn signal works, the brake lights work, but when we turn on the right signal light in our 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, all of the lights begin to flash, much like hazard lights, including the clearance lights. We had problems last year, and it was the tow harness on our Jeep. Everything worked fine when we parked it (indoors) for the winter. Now it's giving us grief and I'd like to know if it's something we can fix ourselves, or if we will have to shell out another $200 this summer.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Sounds like a short.

Check the wiring for the right signal as it is connecting to the running light circuit somewhere.

Check the harness, wiring, light socket (this is a problem with some vehicles), even the bulb if it is a two element type (1157) can cause running lights to go on when signal or brake activated.

If you can't find the problem, then off to the mechanic.

I would first check your vehicles wire harness I usually use a tool like the one in this link http://autozone.com/R,NONAPP23494/store,884/initialAction,accessoryProductDetail/shopping/accessoryProductDetail.htm As it will tell me if everything is working properly at the vehicle. This is made for the 4 way flat and other types of plugs also. With one light for left and one for right and then one for headlights. it is simple to read. Once you know if it is your vehicles wiring or the trailers. You can go form there. Another things to check is does your vehicles lights do the same as the trailer. What it really sounds like is that there is a wire switched in the trailers plug. I would think this is the break and the right turn. One is definately not correct.

Its a short somewhere in your trailer. Check out the wiring. I had a push bumper installed on my jeep a year ago and after the bumper was installed and the auxilliary lights were connected to the jeep it did the same thing when I hooked up to a trailer, it was a short in the wiring that caused it.

check your ground wire. this is the most common problem for the trouble you are having. sound like the right turn signal isn't grounded properly.
