Well, I'm a teen, and to be honest, I went through that a few months ago. I'm 14, and my reason was, i had stuff happening in school and stuff that i couldnt talk to my parents about. Or, i felt i couldnt because they would get angry with me. Maybe that's it. The way my parents helped me was, they set me up a meeting with a therapist (a therapist does NOT perscribe meds, they are for talking only) and they reassured me, that if i wasnt comfortable, i did not have to go again. But i did, my therapist was very helpful. I would recomend before therapy, to ask him if he is alright. Don't push him into talking if he doesnt want to. If he says the normal "nothing", say alright, and while walking away, just let him know youre here if he needs you. I hope this helped. Good luck!

I don't want to make light of your situation, but a lot of teenagers are just like yours. If this is something that began last week to your honor roll student, sure, but teen agers are notorious for making the adults around them check their pulse. They need more sleep then small children and are less likely to get it. There could be something seriously wrong with your teen-ager - so by all means, take them to councilling. Either they will get the help they need or realize your taking an interest in them and get a job or hobby just to avoid you.

I suspect most of them aren't depressed, though, they just want to drive you crazy.

That's a broad question.Have you tried asking this teen why they sit around.Take them to see a counselor.Find something that they are interested in.Help them get motivated.Maybe stop telling them how they never do anything or how bad they are at it.If this is the parent-go through their room.Read notes.Ask their friends questions.Something could be going on.Take them to a doctor for a check-up.Asthma can cause someone to become tired easily.

Those are all very big warning signs of depression, but maybe he/she doesn't know how to motivate him/herself. Was she/he always told what to do and where to be as a pre-adolescent? Now that Mom and Dad are backing off a little bit to give him/her some freedom, he/she hasn't learned the concept of self motivation. Get him/her to set goals for themselves that they want to achieve and work with them on it. Its always best ask a professional though.

Puberty, body growing full time is draining. Could be mono. Take your teen to the doctor for a physical. Could be depression. Who knows? Have you asked the teen?

Depression; mono; lack of affection or attention from parents;drug abuse; many things could cause it. None of them are good. If you are the teen in question, please talk to someone. If you are a parent of such a teen, start by taking him/her to your family doctor for a complete medical check-up. Then ask for a referral to a specialist, counsellor or therapist if appropriate.

Take him or her to the doctor to rule out clincical depression, mono and drugs. Then kick some butt and get involved. Find something they care about and motivate them with it.

Many things,......... Physical and Mental. Get a physical and maybe simple blood tests to rule out anemia etc.
Don't try to make a diagnosis without seeing a professional.

No one on here can tell you that for certain.
Best of Luck!
