I would suggest blue or green (esp. "sage green" - it's not widely used in hospitals by accident). Research suggests that people tend to find those colors the most relaxing and calming, especially people from "western" cultures. There is also research suggesting, if I'm remembering my reading on this topic out of extreme boredom and curiosity years ago correctly, that blue colors mildly increase productivity for certain tasks. Given what you're studying, you might find it interesting to do a review of the "we painted rooms and..." literature, haha. Painting a room with vertical stripes of alternating color on a wall, or two, or paining one wall a lighter shade than the others, can cause rooms to be perceived as more spacious and open than they would otherwise be. This might be ideal if the room is smaller, or if the influx of new (presumably larger) furniture than before makes the room feel smaller. I could attempt to offer suggestions on a stylistic note, but according to all of the women in my life, especially according my little sister, I have a horrible eye for such things, so it probably wouldn't be productive. Good luck!
