Does anybody know what types of positions a woman might occupy during WWII, what food might have been readily available during the war, or a source online that might have good information about everyday life in Japan during World War II (especially pertaining to women but not necessary)?

Thanks so much!

Food, for the most part, did not change substantially during most of the war, from what was consumed before and after the war ... a diet heavy in rice, fish and vegetables. The had smaller amouts of meat such as pork and chicken, and even less beef, but the basic meals remained the same.

Japan was a very static cultural society at the time and the place of women was honored yet limited. They were taking care of the home and the children. There were some limited opportunities in industry (much like in the USA) as men were sent to fight in the war. They also served as translators, office and staff assistance and in a great many non-leadership roles.

Be sure to cover the controversy of "Comfort Women", that is forced prostitution of Koreans and Chinese women in army brothels during WWII. Whoever you're writing the assignment for will expect you to bring this topic up.
