i can only bench 60 but my boyfriend is a hardcore powerlifter/football player and he says that right now i should do lots of reps, like, even just starting out w/ like 100 reps of the bar, and then like, say tomorrow add like a 2 pounder to each side and just build up, he says that i'll get stronger before i know it and i wont hurt myself. also, switch off, day after day, say one day you do benching the next day do squat so that you dont get spoiled our burnt out on one. and make sure that you do lots of running, pushups, and stretching, all the strenght in the world wont help you if you get out of breath or your muscles cramp up to soon. good luck. hope i helped

Sets and reps depend on your goal, i.e. whether you're aiming for size or definition or both. However, the basic number of sets for any particular exercise is 3 while basic reps is within the 12-8 range. Start with the weight where you can perform 12 reps at 70% effort. This will be your first or warm-up set. For your 2nd set, add that weight where you can do 10 reps at around 80-90% effort. For your last set, add that weight where you can do 8 reps at your maximum (100%) effort. You may need a spotter to assist you in your final 2 or 3 reps or for additional 1 or 2 more (called " to failure"). Hope this helps.
