hmm... well if youre keeping it, you can claim its yours anytime. if you sell it, its no longer yours. so as long as youre not selling by the thousands, you would probably wouldnt make it on the irs of the uk. is there a huge difference in price from UK to america? i wonder if an importing business between uk to america is profitable.

if you know someone going from usa to uk. you can get free transporting. thus avoiding vat, except taxes.

I wish to purchase some IT/Computing equipment for around $1400 to then be delivered in the UK so that I can sign and receive my order. According to the USA company they say that would charge me a shipping cost, but I would need to find out what charges I will be charged as they have not a clue on how much so cannot answer my question..

Im on google now but cannot find this answer or what to do.

Can anyone help ?

If you intend to resell eg. on ebay, a common trick is to get the foreign supplier to send them direct to the Customers one at a time.

That way, the customer pays (postage, import duty, VAT, penalty charges etc etc).

Of course you need to make it clear where the goods are coming from (otherwise you will get a lot of Negative feedback).

VAT is applicable only at point of purchase. You may be liable for import duty instead. However, if items purchased are not of huge quantity, I don't think you'll be liable for import duties. You will need to check with the UK customs on taxation.
