No this is not typical, you should actually loose weight due to the reduction of calorie intake. I hope you haven't replaced the alcohol with soda, diet soda, or energy drinks. You may need to have a close look at what you are consuming in place if the alcohol. Everything in moderation is my key for a healthy lifestyle. Although I hardly ever consume "soft drinks", they make you soft. I hope this helps, good luck in your sobriety.

It depends. Was drinking something you did on occasion or was it a vice that you turned to for comfort? Ask yourself if you replaced it with eating! I know when my wife stopped smoking she gained 15 pound because now she needed to replace the one bad habit with another but now instead of her breath smelling like smoke, it smells like ice cream which I guess, isn't too bad!
The good news is now that you've given up a vice like drinking (hey, I still have a wine or beer every so often so it's not all bad!) you can start an exercise program. That is the best way to control your weight. It will take about 2-3 months (yes, sorry but it's true) to see real results so DO NOT GIVE UP. Keep at it and you'll see the pounds coming off. Remember: everything in life is balance.

only if your substituting the drinks for food , sometimes the habit is puting something to your mouth over and over and can be replaced with food, if yoru not rep[lacing it with food then its unlikey as alchohol has at least half a cup of oil per standard drink or at least the equivalent so if u were to quit drinkign and not substitute with food you should be in better health.
