In the Air Force there is a waiver for ANYTHING. Ask whoever is telling you that a lot of questions. I have never heard of someone being underweight.

As a former member of the Air Force, I can honestly tell you I've heard of people not being let in because they didn't weigh enough. Strange isn't it? In a country that constantly complains about the obesity problems, they also knock down someone for being too underweight.

I applaud you for wanting to join our military ranks, and I applaud you for, after a year of trying to gain weight, you still want to join our military.

I would go back to your recruiter (or a different Air Force recruiter if one is available, in a different office) and ask again. They should've given you info on what you could do to help you gain the weight required. If not, ask them. You can also go to a store like GNC and ask for a weight gainer...usually they come in powders you can mix with water, juice, or milk, that will help you to gain weight.

Yes, there are waivers for just about anything in the Air Force. You can try asking your recruiter for one if you can prove that you've been trying to gain the weight. They have shaving waivers for guys, I'm sure they have a low weight waiver as well. And if we don't, we should have one!

First off, how much do you weigh and how tall are you? I weighed 132lbs when I went to basic training and I'm six feet tall, so I was considered borderline for being underweight. I've heard (though it's never been confirmed) that you could be put on an "extra calories" program if you are underweight and basically be given more to eat in order to gain weight.

In any event, you should still be able to enlist and enter training. Who is telling you that you don't weigh enough?
