Alright, I'm 5'4", 19 years old, 130 lbs. I eat at the most 1600 calories a day, I have heard a lot about eating more than you burn to gain muscle but I'm afraid to do that. I was wondering if anyone knows if I could do that and still lose fat. I was thinking a good plan would be to eat no more than 2000-2400 on weightlifting days and eat my regular 1600 on cardio days(with less carbs than weightlifting days of course.)

you have to do what is called cycling.

you hit the eating and prtein heavy diet for a few months, hit the gym hard also during that time, then after about 8-10 weeks, you stop shoveling the food down so much and concetrate on the cardio to lose that fat you built up, do that for about 4 weeks of hard cardio.

always keep up your gym routine and cardio routine, just switch priorties, during the eating cycles.

If you want to gain muscle you need to put on 2500 plus calories a day. You want to eat more on cardio days, since you will burn the most calories. In order to gain any muscle/weight you need to eat more than you burn, like you said. You are about my size when I was 19. I am now 23 and weigh160, all muscle. You need to watch your fat intake to make sure you are not putting on fat weight. I suggest whole wheats for carbs, limit the amount of carbs you have, but you should have some 3-4 times a day. Try to increase your meals to 5-6 times a day. Eat lots of eggs for breakfast. Increase your protein intake by a million. Eat lots of chicken and turkey as they are great sources. If you like fish, even better, eat if everyday. Just keep fat to a minimum, increase your protein and increase your good calories, and you will put on muscle and stay slim.

thats too much of a difference in calories - they should not be more than 300cal on lifting days - your metabolism has to know what its dealing with
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

At your age and your height presently your weight is proportional. If you eat more than what you body needs, most likely you gain more fats. But since you are engaged in a vigorous exercise like weight lifting, your body needs more calories. Yes its a good plan to eat 1600 calories during regular days. But when you start weight lifting you have to eat more to replenish the energy that you used up.

Definitely increase your calories, but make sure they are lean proteins. Carbs and sugars are stored as fat if they aren't used up, but proteins are automatically used to build up muscles even if you aren't actively burning them off. Eating more calories also trains your metabolism to be faster, so eat up and feed your muscles! By the way, don't pay attention to the virgin comment above, there are lots of girls out there looking for all different body types. (He's probably a virgin himself if he's making those kind of comments)

You should probably consult a dietician to make sure your getting enough nutrients. You do need to eat more protein 1gm per lb to build muscle with good carbs (low glycemic index- you can look it up online) If you don't eat enough you'll body will be resistant to losing weight...but your lucky you really don't have much to lose.

well of course, as you prob. already know, muscle weights more than fat. you will prob notice that the scale showing that you are "gaining" weight when its prob. muscle. Also, by gaining muscle it is most likely youll be losing fat. muscle is very healthy and its good that youll be eating more at the same time so you are still getting that nurtition.
